Is anyone considering taking one out if they come up short? I was going through our budget and what we still need or need to put away last night and after fainting had to come to terms that we MIGHT have to if by June/July we aren't were we need to be! Anyone else???

Re: Wedding Loan
I was thinking about it but I think we'll be ok.
If you do think you need to go that route, definitely check out www.prosper.com. Very interesting site. I got a loan through there to consolidate some credit cards. IF I find I need to for the wedding, I will probably go through them again (you're allowed one loan every 6 months).
The only thing is it's not guaranteed (I had to 'apply' three times before I got mine) so you may want to make a decision now and start trying.

No we are desperatley trying to pay it off before. Are you counting everything? what about payments that can be made after the wedding? Like videographer or photographer?

I actually was looking into Bank of America last night. I am just worried that if we do it might effect our home buying process after the wedding..although IF we do take one out we will be paying it off immediately after the wedding as well. I will def. look into that site. Thanks for the info!

I am really really trying not too. What we've been doing is putting away envelopes for each vendor...the photographer has to be paid before so i have his envelope already, videographer needs 1/2 and i have him done, dj done, and florist done but now we have the hall, limos, invites, wedding bands, gifts, RD and all the little things that are going to add up! I am starting to freak with 6 months left I don't know what we are actually going to do so I thought of the loan option in case because i refuse to use credit cards.

But if you use credit cards now you can pay them off immediately after your wedding with the gifts. I'd say that is the better option than a loan if you are looking to buy a house. The mortgage market is terrible and they look at EVERY debt you have.. Just be careful with taking out a loan.
We are putting what we can on credit cards and that's the first thing we will pay after the wedding good luck

That is what I was going to say. It might give you some piece of mind to pay it off now.

Re: Wedding Loan
What about asking your parents for a loan, or a sibling? This way you can pay them right after the wedding with the gifts you receive and nothing goes on your financial records? Could that be an option for you?

Re: Wedding Loan
Just to throw this into the mix - if you or FH have a credit card with a points/miles program, you can earn towards your honeymoon or new home furnishings.
A friend of mine did that - they each got a sep. Delta card, charged all of their home renovations and supplies, paid it off and when they were done, took a second honeymoon back to Hawaii!

I wish we could but they aren't really in the position to offer at the time or they would have. My mother keeps saying she is going to get money for us but I dont' want her to have to struggle to do it either so I would rather it be our burden than any of theirs. His mother is giving us a very generous gift but only after the wedding because she doesn't want us to apply it to the wedding but a house so....

I agree, can you figure out how much you and your FH can pay off and then whatever the difference is ask a close family member or somebody who can lend you that amount and you can pay them back right after the wedding with money you get

We considered it but I think we'll be able to make due without it.

Re: Wedding Loan
i think you would be better off charging some expenses to a cc. There are so many 0% interest cards out now that you could borrow the money & pay nothing on it which wouldnt be the case with a loan. If you have any cc's now with no balance u can always call them & ask them to lower your interest rate, and/or ask them if they have any balance transfer promotions. You can also do this if you have a balance, but are in a better position to negotiate with no balance.
Someone posted about using a card that earns miles & i would def recommend that. We charge everything to our amex delta card & pay it @ the end of the month, even wedding vendor's who accept cc. You would be surprised how fast you can earn a free airline ticket.
good luck!

FH and I put our wedding money in an ING savings account. this way we are making a pretty decent amount of intrest on it but we can still take money out when we need it. You might consider doing this instead of keeping the money in envelopes where they are not earning interest.
We're making almost $40 a month in interest! It's not crazy but every little bit helps!!!

We've been doing this too. Before they lowered the Interest rates we were making about $200 a month in interest!!! now it's about $100 per month..still nothing to sneeze at!!!
Im praying for high interest rates though!!!

we are doing the same thing, but it is crazy how much the interest rate has dropped over the last 2 months...nearly 2 points!

Re: Wedding Loan
Unfortunately me and My Fh have to take out a loan. I am so stressed about this, but my FH is in school and isnt graduating for another year or so. We have paid off all vendors. Its just the RH that is killing us. We will pay it off right away though.

I agree! we have ING accounts too -- you can set them up so they are just like envelopes, one for DJ, Florist, Hall, etc. FH has one for honeymoon savings, etc. You can make as many different ones as you want, and even have it direct deposit from your checking.
