Wedding Make-Up Question

I've heard that some makeup artists will stay until after the ceremony to do touchups. Have any of you done this or know someone who has? Is it worth it? Does the makeup person just hang out in the bridal suite during the ceremony? Also, about how many hours extra does the person typically stay?
