Re: Wedding on Mother's Day

My Brother got married on Mothers day a few years ago. They had it at night though so Mothers could still enjoy part of there day. If people wnat to be there they will come. You might get more no's then expected, but just be prepared for that. I would send Save the Dates our early enough that people know about it well in advance.

I think its like any other holiday. Those closest to you will always come, and others who are distant might think twice.

I don't think it's a bad thing, but you know your guests. If Mother's Day is a huge thing and will stop them from coming then I wouldn't.

I would rather attend a wedding on Mother's Day/Father's Day than a wedding on Memorial day or Labor day, or any other nationwide holiday.

On actual Holidays, offices and schools are closed so people want to take that time to go somewhere on vacation. If there's a wedding on that day, you kind of lose out on that potential getaway. But I understand why people do get married on the holidays... so family will definitely be able to attend.

I would not do it then because I think you would get a lot more nos. I have a friend who got married on Father's Day and there were more nos than the usual (over 20%) and one who got married on Labor Day had 25% nos...we ourselves said no to July 4th weekend for this reason...JMO sorry

My Aunt got married on Fathers Day a few years ago..and there was a nice turnout of people there. I know she did get a few complaints from people saying that they werent wild about the idea- but the wedding was at night so this allowed for people to see their family during the day.

I don't know if I'd do it. I'm sure some of your friends might not make it because they typically do something with their family on Mother's Day.

FSIL and her husband just went to a wedding on Father's Day- and them and all of their friends were complaining BIG time!! And I think Mother's Day is even a bigger deal than Father's Day- I'd think carefully!

I don't think there's anything wrong with an evening Mother's Day wedding.

Our wedding was on Thanksgiving, and everyone showed up.

have you chosen a date yet? or u are thinking of doing it on mothers day? Im getting married on mothers day. the most important is to know your guests, i know for a fact that mothers day will not be an issue for me, my guests will show up. After that, i dont think it should be a problem !!

I had a friend who got married on Mother's Day a year and a half ago. There were over 200 people there. I didn't think twice about RSVPing yes.

She did send out Save-the-Dates, though: you might want to consider that.

Re: Wedding on Mother's Day

im a mother myself, and personally wouldnt want to go to a wedding on mothers day....i like to spend it with my daughter and FH, and we do things together....i would only go if it was a close friend or a family member

alot of people like to spend mothers day with their mothers so i would see it as kinda an inconvience for those people

Re: Wedding on Mother's Day

I literally just read an article in 'contemporary bride' about Jacob Young (Actor from 'All my children' and his now wife, and they were married last year on Mothers day. My first thought was wow I am surprised they were married on a Sunday and mothers day no less. Really I know, who cares about some actor, but it it worked for them and their families so if it works for you and yours do it. I personally do not spend the entire day, every single hour with my mother on mothers day. I know she wouldn't mind if I went to a wedding then and I know I would rsvp yes. HTH

I had my wedding on mothers day this year; I had a full crowd and no one complained about it being on Mother's Day. If you want to have it on mother's day go ahead; dont listen to what ppl have to say. You will get a great deal from the venue. Whoever wants to go to your wedding will go whether its on Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Labor Day, etc etc.

FH and I would probably not go to a wedding on Mothers day. He lost his mom recently and we spend the day with his siblings and then see my mom at night. Having lost her we feel the need to see his family and I don't really want to miss one with my mom since it made me realize that I don't know how many I have left with her.

People may not say anything to the bride and they still may come, but they will may still be annoyed by it.

Re: Wedding on Mother's Day

I really think this depends on your guests more then anything else.

For the people/guests that were invited to my wedding alot of them would NOT have showed if we did it on mothers day or father day....this holiday we spend with our parents-we either go out to dinner or go to one persons house and eat there and no one usually starts leaving until 10 pm if not afterwards.

Some people will enjoy it especially your family b/c they will be able to see the rest of the family, etc.

Here is the only issue with doing Mothers Day night wedding.....people do have work the following day and may leave early-MAY leave early. I would rething the day and your guests. Some of your friends parents may be annoyed/offended that their children are going to a wedding instead of spending time with them.

Re: Wedding on Mother's Day

That's a toughie. We always celebrate Mother's day at night, with dinner, so for me, a day mother's day would be better than a night.
My second cousin had a mother's day wedding, years ago when I was in college. MY mom and sister were invited, so for us we were all together and it was nice, but honestly, I've never spent a mother's day without my mom, and probably wouldn't go to a wedding on mother's day that she wasn't invited to unless I was really, really close with the person -- and I wouldn't be that happy about the date.
Sorry, but hope that helps!
