when do you ask someone to be in your wedding party?

i was going to wait a few months, make pretty cards to ask them but i was very impatient and asked them all within 2 weeks of getting engaged lol

There's no set time to ask them. I know for myself I wanted to ask as soon as possible, cause I'm sure some friends were wondering if they were in or not, and I didn't want to keep anyone in suspense. But I knew I wanted to do it in a special way, and I also wanted to make sure I had a place booked and a date set before I asked. Cause I figured I needed to let them know the date, so they can make sure they will be available (cause what if they happen to have a brother or sister getting married that same day, then obviously they prob couldn't say yes to being in or even coming to my wedding).
Anyway, I was engaged in Sept '07, booked the hall a month later, which was towards the end of Oct '07, and then by the first weekend of November, I had asked all my bridesmaids. I had cookies made saying 'Will you be my bridesmaid?', which came out so cute (pics are in my album).
So I say the sooner, the better, this way they also have plenty of time/notice to save up for dresses, the BP, shower, etc.
