some photgraphers have packages with no albums but they give you a disk of photos...Can these be taken anywhere and printed (like a photo shop or CVS)? Are there copywright issues? i would be saving a lot of $$ by doing my own albums..
Has anyone done this?

Re: wedding photos on disk
my photographer gave us about 85% of our images on disc as well as the proofs in 4'x6' format in albums.
i used Blurb.com to make a few photo books as gifts for friends & family and they came out awesome. if you check out my profile--and head to the end of my review you can see pics of the album i made.
mypublisher is very good for making your own albums also.

yes you can take them anywhere and develop or do it yourself. only thing is, there are a massive amount of pics on the cd so you may need to do a little sorting yourself.

Some places give you a disc but all the pics are 'watermarked'! Make CERTAIN that you're getting unmarked prints, that YOU own. Tell them in advance that you want to make your own album, and ask if the images they deliver will be suitable for that.

You'd have to check with your photog regarding any copywrite just to be sure. Some can be sneaky so read your contract and ask.
We got ours on disc and they are in jpeg format with no copywrite but we did also get a wedding album with two parent albums and I will be ordering some pro printed pics from them. Sometimes you cannot beat the quality of a pro print. We had over 2000 proofs.

Exactly! Some places say they give you all the images but they have PROOF on them or have other marks on the images.

make sure they are in high resolution - you can print them yourself in any size.
if its low resolution, its compress and wont be able to make a good looking prints.

Re: wedding photos on disk
We used 12th Night.
They gave a disc - no watermark - no copyright. We were able to print all the photos that we wanted.
I loaded them up to shutterfly, and ordered prints the thank you cards and several photo books from there.
I HIGHLY recommend 12th night

Does Velvet studios give you full resolution images on the disk without watermarks? Can you just use them for whatever you want? Thanks

Re: wedding photos on disk
the photog we are using said we will be able to do prints at CVS etc. But he was not too forthcoming in giving us a copyright waiver letter. He said if you bring the original cd/dvd to CVS which looks like it's professional they may not want to print from it. but he also said I should copy the pics to another cd and use that -- which is why he said the letter isn't really necessary. Thinking about it, I don't think it's wise to take the master out to make prints anyway, a copy would be safer . . just in case. if you print via the internet this wouldn't be an issue.
