We don't plan on apt hunting till the Spring but there are a couple of things i'm afraid of:
Is it stupid to pay for an apt now instead of just staying at home and saving $. Or would it be better in the long run to buy now because of the lower prices?
I'm also REALLY scared about not having the $ for everyone. My friend made a point over the weekend, i think because i grew up in a home where $ was always something to worry about that now it's drilled into my head to always worry about $ (even if it's not necessary).

I 100% refuse to stay at home any longer. I moved out when I was 17 and only just recently am staying with my grandmother to save money for the wedding. But, I NEED my space no matter what the cost. So, I say it is worth it to move out.

i'd stay at home as long as i could to save up the extra $$. I've been in apts for almost 3 years now and they just keep going down in price now (it seems that way to me at least b/c I am ALWAYS looking). Whose to say closer to your wedding you'll get a better deal (depending on what type of apt your looking at: garden apt vs. house apt)

I think it totally depends on your situation. If your having any doubts then obviously it's not the right time to move. For me, I am still living with my fam. and will until the wedding, it's helping me save a lot of money and I don't have any issues living with my parents, we get along great and I have my own space. So it totally depends on your situation. Lets face it, wedding's cost an arm and a leg these days so if you don't need to move out I wouldn't.

ita!!! stay at home as long as possible. so many people told me this when fh & i moved in together and now both of us wish we would have waited b/c we would have saved more. apartments are expensive and stressful....we've been in 2 different apartments now - first one was nice but our neighbors were soooooo LOUD. this second one is nice too but our maintenance people $uck!!!
on the other hand, its a great time to buy, we are closing on our house in a week and we got such a great deal. so it really depends on you, but i would stay at home as long as possible to save as much money as you can!

FH doesn't have the best relationship with his mom so he def wants to move out asap. I can grin and bear staying at home for the time being

Re: Wedding Planning and Apt Hunting
MY FH has his own apartment, but like I said before I still live with my parents, he got a cheap apartment only $800/month nice size one bedroom but of course if we were to get one together it would be a more expensive one thats why we just decided to get a nicer apartment for the two of us when our wedding is nearer.

FH and I don't live together yet, we both are living at home saving as much as possible for a down payment on a condo.
We will start looking for something in the spring then plan on buying right after the wedding. We will prob. live with my parents for a month or 2 after the wedding until we find something.

i guess it kinda depends on your personality...
i, personally, like being on my own..
my parents are great & i love them..but living on my own is fun.

We are waiting until closer to the wedding to get an apartment together. We are saving SO much money by living at home for another year or so, we are able to just stock that away and not touch it. We would love to get our own place right now but we are 'hoping' with the money we can save plus wedding gifts we will have a nice chunk of change for a downpayment on something(maybe just a 1 bedroom condo, but something haha).

Re: Wedding Planning and Apt Hunting
i am in the same situation!!! we booked for june 19, 2010 and we both live at home. we were thinking we would just live at home to save $ and start looking next january to find some place that we can move in for may 1....but what a hassle that is going to be to move all our stuff in and buy furniture and stuff a month before the wedding!! but still it will probably be worth it to spend the money....just a very stressful time! if we do find a place in may, my FH might just move in and i will move in right after our wedding in june...we ne ver lived together so i am a little nervous!! but have been together for 6 years, so im sure everything will be fine.

Re: Wedding Planning and Apt Hunting
FH has his own condo, so he has somewhere to live, but I am living at home to save money. For me, this works out best because I can save, I like my family, and it makes my parents happy. It will be really easy for us when we get married, though, because he already owns his own place which I basically stay at most of the week.
I think you have to make that decision for you. If one or both of you can save the money, then that might be the best way to go if the money is going to be tight. If you really (when you OBJECTIVELY look at your budget) think money is going to be OK, then move out! Enjoy your freedom!

Re: Wedding Planning and Apt Hunting
We are both living at home to save money for the wedding and the sad truth is even when we get married we may have to live together with either my parents or hers for a couple of months until we can find our own place... I dont wanna rent and pay someone elses mortgage... I'd rather own and pay my own....
