Hi everyone! I am getting married may of next year (2015) @ the Skylight room in Jericho Terrace. I am starting to plan everything now in advance so I can kind of cruz through the planning process. I had my mind set on a 1920s/gatsby theme where my colors would be black, white and gold - that was before I tried on a dress for fun and ending up LOVING it. It's a Vera Wang Ball Gown like the one in Bride Wars- Kate Hudson was wearing it when she got married at the Plaza but that's just it, Is it too much for a regular venue? I know its supposed to be 'my day' to feel like a princess but Im a little more reserved so its throwing me off BUT it fit amazingly. My question I guess is what bridesmaid dresses go with Ball gowns and can I still get away with my color or should I do more of a blush/gold?
Help!
Thank you :)

I love love love ball gowns! Totally wear it! My theory is you can always wear a fitted dress but you can never really wear a ball gown again. I have pictures of mine in my album.
Any bridesmaid dress can go with ball gowns. My girls are in floor length chiffon dresses (Bill Levkoff style 769.)
As for the colors and theme you can 100% keep the things you had in mind. I don't think your dress has to change your theme. You could do black dresses and gold flowers or a gold sash on the dresses.

you can totally still have your girls in the gold color! Bill levkoff is a great designer like jaimelin said above... my girls got bill levkoff dresses from burton's bridals in melville for like $150 before tax which was a great price.. they are normally around $200 in other stores

side note: I think it would look amazing if the girls wore black dresses and wore all gold 1920s style jewlery. Gold dresses would look nice too though, but I'm like picturing long black dresses, chunky gold jewlery, red lips, and one of those 1920s style headbands with the feather on the side with black and gold sequins on it!
i love the 1920s style lol :)

I personally think themes should be subtle, something in the background that enhances the event but not the focal point so I say do whatever you want! I would not change anything. The details will all fall into place. If you're really concerned add some vintage touches in your accessories like your shoes, jewelry, hair for you and the girls. Besides once the bridesmaids are in the same dress it all looks uniform anyway.

Most of my girls got their dresses at Helen's in Commack, then one ordered hers a lot cheaper on Victoria's bridal boutique online.

Did you see any bridesmaids dresses at Vera Wang that would go with your gown. Here are a few links for ideas http://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=the%20great%20gatsby%20wedding%20theme&rs=ac&len=24 http://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=the%20great%20gatsby%20bridesmaid%20dresses

I think long bridesmaid dresses will be perfect. I think you just have to look around at different designers because even if you pick a color, they really do vary by designer.

I'm partial to the black bridesmaid dresses and gold jewelry, because that's what my girls wore! AND.....I wore a ball gown!
