Due to unfortunate circumstances, looks like our wedding needs to be postponed. My bridesmaid father is up for a kidney transplant and she is a perfect match and we also have some important family members that will not be able to attend. Looks like our venue is not working with us. We would like to postpone but unfortunately looks like we will be losing our deposit and will have to start all over again. All of our other vendors are willing to work with us. Does anyone know of anyone that has had to postpone and if so were they able to salvage any of their deposit with their venue? Please help ladies!!!!

Wedding postponement - Long Island Weddings
Most venues I looked- and the one I booked had a clause where the deposit was nonreturnable unless the date was rescheduled. Have you talked with your venue?

I'm so sorry to hear about your family. best wishes to everyone! my only suggestion is what if u asked them to move your deposit to your rescheduled date?

Are you going to re-schedule with the same venue? If so, it seems pretty unreasonable that they won't move your deposit over to your new date.

I was thinking the same thing.

I would definitely ask if they are willing to reschedule so you dont lose your deposit!

I also believe there is a law in NYS that as long as you give at least 6 months notice, they have to refund your deposit, regardless of a contract clause. I remember seeing something on here about it but that was FOREVER ago. I would look into that as well. Sorry to hear about your friends/family! Keep your head up! You'll get through!

When we booked I had my hall add into the contract that if there were unforseeable circumstances, we would be able to re-schedule but not get our deposit back. I'm sorry you're going through this - family is more important and I hope that your uncle's surgery goes well! I'll keep him in my prayers.

Re: Wedding postponement
I know exactly what you're going through. My FH and I were both were laid off in 2011 and had to postpone our wedding. The venue just so happened to be Fox Hollow. I was not happy about losing so much money on top of my job. So we'll be getting married at the courthouse on November 1st and have a formal ceremony and reception next year. Wishing your family all the best. I'll keep your bridesmaid and her dad in my prayers. Keep your head up. It will all work out in the end.

Ditto. I don't understand why they'd be so unreasonable about it.

Unfortunately I am finding more and more that Fox Hollow is extremely unaccomodating - this does not surprise me at all. So sorry you have to go through this though. Hopefully things will work out for you in the end.

What is you were able to find someone else to pick up the date and the contract to replace you? Will they refund you the deposit? Because if they allow that, at the very least, you can also put a post here and tell people about the availability and offer them the same deal or give them a 'discount' so that even though you don't get your full deposit back, you can get some of it back. Good luck! Glad you posted about Fox Hollow. It's good to know about how they do business.

I'm curious what problems are you having with them? We were under our minimum and they offered us a choice of some extras to offset the extra cost. We ended up having an amazing dessert platter on all the tables, which was a huge hit, so they were willing to work with us.
If they absolutely will not refund you, maybe ask if they could transfer your deposit to be a credit for the hotel and restaurant. That way you'd get something for your money.

We rescheduled our wedding - canceled last August/September with no specific reschedule date in mind. Then this July we decided to do it by December! We were able to rebook every vendor we originally had, and our hall gave us back all money paid before we canceled towards our bottom line. It was actually much less stressful than I anticipated!
