Wedding programs

Wedding programs

I see so many of you are doing wedding programs. I was curious if any of you are not doing them. Since I am getting married at the hall and I cannot see the ceremony really taking all 30 minutes, I have no readers, or poems, do I really need to make programs? Please tell me your opinions on this.

I'm not doing them, either...my officiant says the ceremony is going to take AT MOST 15 mins (and we are adding things to make it this long). I don't think the added expense is necessary when having such a short ceremony, but that's JMO.

I was wondering that too- I am also getting married at the reception place.

Re: Wedding programs

we decided for the sames reasons you mentioned that the programs were not for us. We dont want our guests to have to carry them around. They will already have bubbles, rose petals and candle placecards.

We are because my parents are of 2 different religions. My mom is catholic and my dad is jewish. I was raised catholic and we are having a full mass at my parish. I am doing the programs to explain what everything means for my jewish family that will be at church.

I'm not doing them. We are also getting married at the hall so I didn't see the need for them nor did I want the added expense.

Re: Wedding programs

I am thinking of doing them. I'm also getting married at my hall, but we are having an interfaith ceremony and my relatives won't understand some of the Jewish traditions that are going on.

I've been to weddings where there were programs and weddings where there were no programs. I did appreciate a program for this Hindu ceremony I attended in the fall because it explained all of the Hindu traditions. If you are going to have things as part of your ceremony that you feel that your guests won't understand, then maybe having programs will help. Otherwise, spend your money on something else.

I am not doing them either. I am having the ceremony at the hall, hoping to have a short and sweet ceremony. I think there is no need, since there won't be readers, prayers etc.

Re: Wedding programs

Thank you all for the input. My Mother is Jewish and my Dad and FI are Catholic. The only Jewish tradition that we are doing is breaking the glass, we are doing that in memory of my Grandfather and the minister can explain that. The only other thing we are doing is a memory table and the name on the candle or on the pictures should explain that. So I don't think I will do them. WHEW! Thank you all again!

I am doing them, but I am getting married at a church. However, I have been to many weddings that did not have them.

I AM doing them, though you really do not have to.

It is mainly for the benefit of my family.

I am getting married in the church and I am not doing wedding programs. We decided to put the money that would be spent on them towards something else.

Re: Wedding programs

We did them and thought it would be nice to include in print all our BP's names, their relationship to us, our parents names, officiant, organist. We too had a 35 minute ceremony as we have full usage of our chapel for 1 hour. We thought it was a nice gesture to do so. We had 2 readings which were read by our BP members, candle lighting ceremony, poem about my love for my DH and a brief description on a Lithuanian cake. DH and I are of 4 different cultures where his mother is Lithuanian. One of DH's aunt bought a Lithuanian cake as a gift and was very generous to share with our 150 guests during dessert in addition to our reception cake, and coridal desserts. Many people can read the description from our programs of what it is.

It's really up to you, should you have programs or not plus your budget as a factor.

Re: Wedding programs

I like them. You can find out who the bridal party is, especially when you don't know either the bride or groom very well.
WE are doignthem but we are having ours at a church and we will have readings and songs etc.

Re: Wedding programs

How about just doing a scroll? with a thank you and listing your names, churcy, wedding date.. a nice quote and list your parents and bridal party?

Re: Wedding programs

I'm having a nice long Church Ceremony so I am doing a program booklet, but I would not if I were at the hall. I would do something much lower scale.
I love Marcella's idea of the scroll.

I'm having my ceremony and reception at the same place and decided to make scrolls. I found this adorable website that you send a photo of you and your hubby when you were kids and they create a wedding picture of the both of you. The website is called www.pygraphics.com. Good Luck!!!
