Wedding Proposal help for co-worker

My co-worker has friends coming to New York to visit him from California. While his friend his here he wants to propose to his girlfriend in New York City. We were dicussing ideas on how to do it.
I suggested dinner, carriage ride in Central Park, the top of the Empire Strate Building. He thought maybe in the middle of Times Square.
Do you have any original ideas? I am stumped!

I am biased to Central Park because that is where I got engaged!! There are so many terrific little spots to choose from!!!

I don't have any suggestions as to where he should propose, but I would definately tell him to have someone videotape or take pictures of the proposal. That is something I wish I had!

I second this!! In my excitement I never actually heard Eric say 'will you marry me' (I was too busy staring at the ring ) and if it had been videotaped, I would be able to go back and see it.

But other than that, totally clueless!

I got engaged in NYC, at a little restaurant in SoHo called Pfiff. My FH worked with the owner, down to the tiniest detail. She played our song through the restaurant, had the chef make my favorite dessert and even had the other restaurant patrons throw rice at us after I said yes. It was very romantic
Plus, she even took pictures so now I have a great memory

There are tons of little cute spots in Manhattan.

My FH said we were going to go to dinner someplace on Queens Blvd (we live in Queens) and then continued to drive along queens blvd, hopped on the lie into manhattan to give me my choice of restaurants since it was our 5 year 'anniversary' and then after dinner pulled out tickets to the Empire State Building and waited until almost midnight- I wouldn't have wanted it any other way!! It's classic!

You could make arrangements at a museum (maybe one that has a jewelry exhibit) to have the ring displayed with the proposal written on a note card.

I think I saw this in a movie.

just to add to the picture/video thing...My most favorite picture ever is of our proposal, I'm sooo glad that my FH thought to have our family there (and yet I still had no clue) so we have awesome pictures of the whole thing.

Perhaps a broadway or off-broadway show that has some audience participation. My proposal was very private, it was on the beach in the Domincan Republic. I sometimes wish I had a video or pics, but most times I think about how special it is because it's something just the two of us shared.

Ooooo! What about one of those horse and carriage rides around Central Park, Oh I guess it's a little cold for that!

There's a great restaurant in NYC called 'One if by Land, Two if by Sea', that's known as the most romantic restaurant in the city (the food's great too). It's really a pretty atmosphere, & it's become known as THE PLACE to pop the question in NYC. Maybe he can call ahead & print up a fake dessert menu, at the bottom of the menu have the words ' JANE DOE will you marry me?'
and she can say, 'I'll have the creme brulee please'
Just an idea

If your friend's a little offbeat, how about the big blue whale room at the Museum of Natural History? Right under the whale! I would've LOVED that!!!!

Helicopter ride over NYC at night... Liberty Helicopter tours. I think they're over by 30th and 12th. It's a quick ride.. like 15 minutes.. but very unique.

ACtually, one of our volunteers was proposed that way just recently. I don't actually know her...but, my co-workers know her. Her Fiance gave everyone cameras b/f the event happened and they all took pictures when he proposed. He told her they were going to some benefit but that he got the date wrong but since they were there...they might as well go into the Museum. Isn't that so romantic
