Re: wedding registry????? HELP
We moved in before getting stuff for the wedding and just sort of cut corners until we got the better stuff.
We bought our plates at IKEA for $.59 each and bowls from there too for like $.79 or something. They are simple white and do the job. Some one gave us some glases and we borrowed extra silverware from DHs parents. We had a mini coffee pot and borrowed some pots and pans until we got others.
basically you just piece together things from various places until you get the 'real' stuff.
oh, so knowing that i would be getting what i wanted a little ways down the road that was my motivation for not just going out and buying everything. You can survive on the basics and hand me downs for a bit.

Re: wedding registry????? HELP
i know it might be difficult to have any control over this, but is it possible that you might have your shower before may or even shortly after you move?
if so, then maybe just try to borrow stuff until the shower or get some real cheap stuff, like at national liquidators, to hold you over until your shower if it's shortly after you move in.

Re: wedding registry????? HELP
Like someone said, I would buy the basic minimal items, like plates and silverware from Target or something. When we first moved in, we bought a lot of sets from Linens N Things (like pasta set, baking set). They were on sale for 9.99 and you got everything you needed. I would catch sales and go minimal until the wedding.

FH and I have already moved in together. We both have already lived on our own so we have TONS of mismatched dishes etc.!! If you need temp stuff and if you dont care that they dont match .. FM me and maybe we can meet up somewhere!! You can just have em!! I have boxes of stuff in the livingroom that we arent using!! I was gonna wait for a garage sale - but id rather not go through the aggravation!!!

Maybe you can hint that you want your shower to be early so you get the best of both worlds!!

Re: wedding registry????? HELP
Maybe some of the other brides on this site could help you. I just had my shower and I now have to get rid of a set of silverware, dishes, pots, towels, linens etc. Unfortunately I live in DC so I won't be of much help to you, but you may want to see if any 06 or 07 brides have anything that they were just planning on giving away anyway.

Re: wedding registry????? HELP
I am also getting married in November and we moved in together last July. There was no way I could wait a year until my shower so we bought some basic stuff we needed like everyday dishes and some silverware from Walmart. I borrowed some other stuff like a few pots and pans from my mom and a few knives. We registered a few months ago and immediately a few people bought us some stuff for a late engagement gift since they know we really need a few things such as the comforter we wanted. It gets pretty cold in our apartment sometimes. The rest of the stuff I registered for will just be replacements for the stuff I borrowed or the cheaper stuff I bought just to get us by. All of the other stuff I can wait for...the china, wine glasses, flatware, more towels, more sheet sets, and some crystal stuff and frames that I registered for. Maybe you can hint that you want a shower in the summer. I am having mine in August. I am sure people will understand that you want to get your place set up.

Re: wedding registry????? HELP
go to ikea.... except you may find their china for 4 in a box is god enough for your permanent everyday china...
I got them when I was single (along with a lot of good quality cooking supplies online), and now there's very little to register for

Re: wedding registry????? HELP
have you had an engagement party yet? if not and you're planning to, then your guests will likely buy you stuff off of your registry and you can start using it.

Re: wedding registry????? HELP
I am in the same boat...FH & I just moved into our apt this weekend. I bought alot of stuff for cheap at Ikea and Dollar Tree just to get us by until the Shower. I have no idea when my shower is. The only thing that I bought that I plan to take off of my registry is my vacumm. And my mom went and bought my everyday china off my registry so we could have them to use them.

I am in the same boat. We are moving in before getting married, so it was a bit difficult for us to register for stuff. We are buying the bare minimum that we need and will make due since we put a lot of the stuff that we really want on the registry.

Re: wedding registry????? HELP
I would see if you could have your shower earlier. Even if it' sin june or july that is good caus eyou only have to go a few month without it. But definetly get cheap stuff for now.
