Wedding Theme?

Wedding Theme?

I'm trying to come up with a theme for my wedding......or at the very least, a color scheme!!! I'm not the creative type so maybe you guys can sorta steer me somewhere??

I also started thinking about placecard holders----know where I can find some unique quality ones?

you're getting married in the fall... a fall theme is always nice. burgandy or chocolate brown for a color? or maybe a champagne with darker colored bo-k's and flowers?
when i picked my color, i was thinking more - what would look nice on my bridesmaids... they all have very different skin coloring so i wanted something that looked nice on everyone.
or what's your favorite color and start from there.
we used votive placecards, but if you wind up with a theme - you may want to tie your theme in. it's your day... what are your ideas?

Well, I'm getting married in early September so I was thinking of a more summer-y wedding.....My favorite color is red so I think it's kind of hard to tie into a summer wedding theme.....

I would prefer not to do votive placecards....where did you get yours?

does your hall provide inspiration? Does it have a huge rose garden (victorian), near the beach? How is it funished? Ultra modern, art deco, or with traditional dark wood furniture and crystal chandeliers? Do you or FH have a hobby or job that you love? Fireman, vetrinarian....

We are embracing blue and white, since they are dominant colors in the church and hall, and we're embracing the water theme, since that's where we live.

you can go on theknot and get lots of ideas for each of these themes.....
hope this helps....

I would rather not use black at all in my wedding. I would like some color!!

Re: Wedding Theme?

have you tried looking into the 'theme' boards?? there are great ideas there.

what else can you share about yourself and fh??

favorite sport?
favorite activity to do together?
things like that...

a lot of girls have used that as inspiration for themes.

there are girls who are big sports fans, so they are using that as the theme.

some girls are using fh's profession: firefighter, police officer... to help in the theme.

i've seen one or two use their love of wine as a theme.

then do red ....there's nothing wrong with red in september ...there are plenty of summer brides that used red

red and pink look pretty together

My FH is not into sports....I like baseball (Yankees fan). Our favorite activity to do together is get Starbucks coffee and ice cream, lol. I like the wine theme...FH & his family got me into that. I wuold never drink wine before I met him.

Re: Wedding Theme?

We didn't have a theme persay...we just wanted the wedding to very much reflect DH and I, without being too 'themey'. As a result, we did a lot of personal, DIY things. We wrote a personal note to each of our guests that was in a bundle on each table, our favors were christmas ornaments (our fave holiday) that were filled with potpourri made from all of the flowers we've exchanged throughout our relationship, had photos of our families in the reception hall, etc. We did lots of pinks, ivories, etc. (pics of projects and a few non-prof pics in albums)

Try to think of what you and FH are known for...maybe it's your fabulous baking skills, love of ice cream (ice cream scoop favors or a sundae bar?), his love of wine (name tables different wines), etc.

Hope this helps a little. Don't think you need to have a theme either...it couold just be something that ties everything together, but it not necessary a theme (for us it was the fonts we used on everything and the color pink)

Re: Wedding Theme?

I really like the ice cream scoop favor idea---FH and I have a Saturday night ritual of getting ice cream from Cold Stone or some Haagan Dazs I also like that it is a functional favor since most of the time, favors end up getting thrown out or donated to a thrift store (like i have done in the past). My mom thinks that the favor should be something more elaborate or fancy---grrrr!!!!!! I hate having to try to please everyone else but myself!

I am at the begining of September also. We are doing a Key West Theme. It is still Summery. It is only a week after Labor Day, you know it will still be warm. We are going with our theme because we go down to the Keys every winter! My FH LOVES to fish (you can say it is his second love)

My FH is really into computers and gadgets. I don't know if I particularly want something like that as a wedding them, lol.

Loved the Carlyle. Very Beautiful, ballroom....They quoted me a crazy price for September '08....Did you get a good price? Did they work with you at all? A black-tie ball would be beautiful there with a victorian flare....

If you use a bright red, you could definitely make it look summary... I really like red and pink together for example.
