Is anyone interested in participating in a wedding documentary? I am an independent filmmaker making this doc on weddings in NYC and different rituals based on different ethnic/backgrounds. I have experience with films as director, editor and producer. I have been involved in a documentaries for many years, one I worked on recently was at the Film Forum (Divan), and have directed and edited one on Sep 11th, mostly shown on college campuses and few festivals. If you participate, will provide you the edited copy, at No cost to you.

Re: weddings anytime soon?
I would say do mine but I don't think it is what your looking for... we aren't doing any special rituals and we are on LI not NYC. We are just doing things the way we want... no customs, rituals...just FUN

Re: weddings anytime soon?
Hi. I am looking at what it is that people do for the wedding, the ring, the cake, the father giving away the pride, the dress, the vows and so much more. How do people decide what ritual to include, or make-up. It is really interesting to me how we decide; is it rooted in tradition or is it something we made-up? I know some of my friends were all experimenting with what feels comfortable to them; one friend did an 'unusual ceremony' since they were from different religions, but it was exactly like a wedding and they had their sibling write some beautiful things to say about their sister and brother. Other friends who are jewish have some traditional things that are specific to their culture, the chairs being raised or breaking glass. Everone has something that is interesting. I am sure I will find something even if you think you are doing nothing specific.

Hi Julz, Are you doing a cake, for example? That is a ritual that started some time ago. Weddings are full of rituals that we take for granted. Something old, something blue... that is sort of the kind of thing I want to see. Even if it is part of the mainstream tradition. Also, I am interested in the evolution of wedding tradition, or and the fussion of different traditions. If you are just having fun, I am interested in seing it: are you a part of new innovations, what are you doing in place of old traditional things-like father giving away the pride? I would be able to drive to LI. Hope that gives you some idea of what I am looking for.

Yes we are doing a cake but it will be colorful... not the traditional white. For the fther giving away the bride - I am not doing that. I don't speak to my father and he will not be at the wedding. Instead I am walking myself down the aisle. I also don't like the idea of me being 'property' for one man to give to another.
Are you doing a few different brides or only one?

Re: weddings anytime soon?
My father passed away a little over a year ago.... and while I agree with Julz33 about not being property, I'm going to have my mom walk with me down the isle. The sentiment, IMO, is nice. I always thought of it more as you had your parents to confide in up until this point....now it will be your husband.
Instead of the father-daughter dance at the reception, I am going to ask the guests to dance with me to the Elvis song, 'All Shook Up' (Dad loved Elvis) to honor his memory. I think that will pay respects but keep with the happiness of the occasion, I hope.

Re: weddings anytime soon?
I would like to have about few different weddings, have not put a number on it. I will see how many people are interested before I say this is enough. But most like I will shoot for about 5 to 6 weddings.

My mom is walking me down the aisle. My dad passed away. Besides, it is Jewish tradition for both parents to walk the bride and the groom down the aisle.

Re: weddings anytime soon?
Both my parents (jewish tradition) will be walking me down the aisle. This will be especially poignant as my dad had seriously spinal surgery almost a year ago and is still recovering and learning how to walk again.
