Weekend getaway

Weekend getaway

I need suggestions for a place for DH and I to go for a weekend getaway. We can't take time off from work, so it shouldn't be much more than 2 hours drive. I'm not familiar with the Hamptons, but does anyone know of nice B&B there--something cozy with a fireplace would be nice!

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but FI and I go away for the weekends ALL the time. His favorite is Atlantic City. It's a slum, I know, but we stay at Ceasars and it is soooo beautiful and the restaurants are great. Alot of fun too. Food for thought.

We go to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun when we need to get away. 2 hours each way - less if you take the ferry.

I don't know of any specific places in the Hamptons - but everything out there is beautifull! You can hit the wineries, too!

Good Luck!!

Also, but a little further away is the Poconos. Fireplaces, heart-shaped tubs - the works!!! Always fun there (and your meals are included). I think it's about 3 - 3.5hours each way from Suffolk County.

Thanks ladies, but I'm pregnant, and I guess we don't want a nightlife type scene-I especially don't want to be around smoking. Also, we are saving to buy a house, so this would be kind of a splurge, but we need have some getaway time a couple of times before the baby comes in June. So, we don't have $$ to gamble either. Any other suggestions?

We just came back from a great getaway - Newport, Rhode Island. Aside from the rain, we had a great time. It's beautiful there, even in the Fall. It's about a 3 1/2 hr drive from LI, but it's an easy one - let me know if you'd like more info!

We just spent the weekend up in mystic. it's about 2 1/2 hours away. There's the aquarium, the seaport, old mystic village with tons of little shops, historic mystic with other shops. Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun are close by (I think Mohegan sun has a smoke free section - not sure though). There are also outlets along I-95 and there may be some around mystic.

Let me know if you need more info

Both casinos have a non-smoking section. FI is deathly allergic to smoke.

I love the French Manor in the Poconos. The best B&B my DH ever took me. I love it and they also have a 4 star restaurant which is amazing. I will go back just for the food alone.

I have to second Teri on Newport, RI. My FI and I don't go away much but last year, right after Christams we had time off and decided to go there. I really loved it. We found a cute little B&B that had a fireplace (I think some I was looking at even had hot tubs) and the whole place was just so charming. We toured the local mansions which were just amazing. It's a little farther then you said you want to drive but well worth it. We actually took the ferry over from Orient and once we got to the other side, it wasn't very far at all.

i love newport! great for a weeekend getaway.
mystic is nice too, but not as much to do.
we just spent the weekend in montauk (we got soaked!) at the montauk manor based on yabbobay's recommendation. it was beautiful, we had a one bedroom suite, bedroom was a loft. decent prices & lots of great restaurants that are open off-season.

My Fh and I have gone to the Poconos for a week in January for the past 2 years and we love it. We get the hotel through Skyauction (www.skyauction.com).

We got a week at the Villas at Treetops resort (it has 2 bedrooms, a loft, kitchen, living room, 2 bathrooms, etc) through skyauction for $260. If you don't want to go to PA, they also have other places too.

Hope this helps!

If you haven't changed your mind and are still interested in the Hamptons, Forum mail me and I could probably help you out.
