Weekend getaway ideas?

Dh's birthday is coming up in a few weeks, and after all the wedding madness, I thought it would be nice to take him away to a B&B somewhere for the weekend... any good ideas for someplace within driving distance? (We live in Philly)

Re: Weekend getaway ideas?

Um, I don't know too much about Philly, but if you can get to the jersey side there are a few in Princeton that are supposed to be nice!

Let me ask my co-worker from that area & see if he has any insight!

oh, & happy b-day to your DH!

New Hope, PA - there's a neighboring NJ town that looks quaint.

I was thinking of New Hope, but I took an ex there a few years back and kinda burned down the B&B, so I want to avoid that area

Re: Weekend getaway ideas?

I grew up in Princeton and it is great--The Nassau Inn is really nice! We used to go to Phila. for the weekend from Princeton--not a bad drive--there used to be a store called Wannamaker's that had amazing holiday decorations! My brother is in Phila. in law school now...Here's another cute B&B

Re: Weekend getaway ideas?

There's a wonderful romantic B&B in Sterling PA. It's called the Sterling Inn (duh!)
Anyway - they usually run weekend specials and stuff and the place is just sooooo romantic. They have great chef too!

We usually go there in the winter for a getaway and DH always says it reminds him of White Christmas or 'Holiday Inn' when there's snow on the ground.

Here's the website:

The Sterling Inn posted above is nice..they have cute little cabin style rooms with a fireplace and jacuzzi. Their sister resort the French Manor looks nice.

Re: Weekend getaway ideas?

i'm biased because my parents have a b&b.. but go to the poconos.

i know my parents place is only about 2 hours away from philly so its not bad at all.. plus there's tons of oher b&bs and inns in the area.

i could probably list off about 10 if you're interested

Re: Weekend getaway ideas?

We are going to Newport, RI in a few weeks. I've never been and its supposed to be really cute with little Inns, shops, restaurants etc. It will be cold! But all the mansions you tour will be decorated for the holidays, plus, the rates for this time of year are so cheap!

This is where I was going to suggest. I've had a few frieds stay up where and they said it's absolutely beautiful. I know they have a ton of B&B's that are pretty reasonable. One friend even stayed in one that was supposed to be haunted. They didn't know until after they got there, she said it was cool, and not really as creepy as you would expect.

Re: Weekend getaway ideas?

Head over to the jersey shore, there's a lot down in the Cape May area. Go a little north or south of AC.

Edited after: Maybe I should have read all the posts! Have fun!
