Weekend Getaways

Weekend Getaways

Since airline flights are RIDICULOUS in prices right now, we're thinking of taking 2-3 local weekend trips this summer. I know we're going to AC for one but we wanna try new places. Any recommendations?

We like places with alot of attractions and things to do.

TIA.

This is a great idea, ever since we got back from the honeymoon we want to keep traveling. We can't do any big trips until next year but want to do local ones this summer.

Foxwoods and Mystic Seaport is fun

marthas vineyard, its a bit more laid back. Or how about going to boston or driving to chicago both are supposed to be real nice and lots to do. Niagara falls is fun and again you can drive there.

DH and I are the kings of long weekend trips, he doesn't really like to fly. We live in Astoria so anything you can get to within a couple of hours on Amtrak is easy for us. Baltimore is a 2 hr amtrak ride, Philly is 1 1/4 hours, DC is like 3 1/2 hrs. All have so much to do. My favorite is Baltimore, stay in the inner harbor, there's a ton of restaurants/bars, the aquarium, Camden Yards is w/in walking distance of the inner harbot so get tickets to an Os game.

Saratoga is also really nice, you can go to the tracks up there and go watch the horses, plus it's a really cute town w/restaurants and stuff. You can drive up to Mohegun. We went recently, tons of fun and much closer than we thought.

Newport, RI is great. All old victorian homes and stuff, it's sooo pretty. Boston is also so much fun, but a bit longer drive.

I love New Hampshire - Portsmouth is a great town - and Portland, Maine rocks too. If you like seafood, Portland is great for that. Cute shops in both towns, etc.

But I would go to Boston if you haven't been. TONS to do and such an awesome city.

Baltimore is great too - FH and I went for vday a few years ago and stayed at Fell's Point Inn - adorable place, great location, close to everything.

We like the Poconos! There's tons to do and such an array of different places to stay. We splurged once and stayed at one of the Caesars Couples Resorts. It's expensive but it's all inclusive and was a lot of fun!!

duh dh and i go to the poconos alot, how can i forget that. Not a long drive and now they opened up a casino where mount airy lodge was, its all slots now and its video poker and blackjack but gives you something to do at night. We've stayed at skytop 3x there and love it.

FH and I go to the Reading, PA area at least twice a year. They have the vanity fair outlets, farmers markets, antique shops. Pottstown has the Yuengling brewery. Dorney park is also near there though we have never gone and in Allentown is the Crayola factory which we keep meaning to see.

If you like trains, Altoona PA is also really nice. They have a railroad museum and the horseshoe curve has a beautiful view. It's cool watching the train travel around the curve.

I like going to Deerfield, MA. The Yankee Candle factory is up there, and there is a butterfly conservatory too. It's nice and laid back up there.

Crayola factory in PA is fun, but might be wasted on grown ups...
