Ok so I know this has been posted a half a million times--but I want to surprise Dh with a short getaway over labor day weekend--- We are in NJ and willing to travel 3 hours tops (dont' want to spend all day Monday getting back) We have done Mystic- would prefer somewhere different but def not LI-- we have never really done NY -- we love to go to towns that have fairs/festivals going on--that kind of thing-- any suggestions in NY, NJ, CTPA, or anywhere else Thanks for the help Oh yeah and I don't want to spend a ton so any deals (as if on a holiday weekend- but I think you get the point!)

Here's a few suggestions. I have been trying to come up with different places too.
Poconos Lancaster/amish area of PA Atlantic City Newport, RI Lake George (longer drive though) Ocean City, MD (a longer drive too) Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD
I second Block Island - one of the most romantic vacations I ever went one!
I saw in Time Out magazine a list of all the state fairs and dates. The only one that is Labor Day weekend is Columbia County Fair in Chatham, NY.. which I have no idea where it is, but somewhere upstate NY. The website is www.columbiafair.com - if its near the finger lakes or Saratoga or something that would be really nice too.

Hershey, PA (you can get a chocolate wrap / massage)
Cooperstown - may be a bit more than 3 hours
Boston - probably about 4 to 4.5 hours from you.

These are great ideas--- not I am going to start researching-- Jenn--Disney is tempting--it was our first trip together(about 6 months into our relationship) and we had a BLAST--how could you not and i have been dying to go back-- so maybe......hmmmm... wonder if he would kill me--- but for a few days was it worth it? cause I know DH will not take any more days off of work--so we would have to leave fri and come home mon night-- what do you think? and could we do it cheaply--
Disney is doable in a weekend. You dont have to see everything. I just checked expedia & orbitz and the rates are about $300 pp for air & hotel labor day weekend (friday nite - monday nite).

I went to DH and said 'what if instead of buying a birthday present for me (7/31) we go away for labor day?' and he's like sure, but where and I played dumb and he thought I wanted Vegas-- so I threw Disney out there--He isn't sure he wants to fly for such a short time-- Can anyone give me info on staying off site in a nice close place? Thanks
