Weird Allergy....Anyone?! Yellow #5

Just curious if anyone else out there is allergic to yellow dye #5.

This only came up about 5 years ago & now ONLY if I eat a lot (but it is in everything....American cheese, sodas, most candies---Starburst, Spree, Skittles, Cheese doodles, etc) but then my lips and/or tongue swell up to the point where I can't talk and I have to take MAJOR Benedryl.

The first time it happened they shot me up with Adrenalyne.....Scary....

But even w/ the Benedryl, I'll wake up the next a.m. & still be semi-swollen...not fun.

Anyone else have this?!

It was kind of obvious but yes he was tested.
It's really great that no matter how many times you tell the school NO CANDY especially yellow and red die candy they still give it to him. And I really appreciate the Hawaiian punch! When I was in school if you had candy you got in trouble now the teachers and school give it as a reward and wonder why the class is obnoxious by the end of the day. DUH! No offense to the teachers on this board!

Second, what reaction does your son get (you can FM me if you prefer). Was it something he had since birth or did it just come on?

It just came on for me about 5 years ago & at first I truly had no idea what it was (I'm a candy-holic & was eating this stuff since I was little). I guess it all caught up to me. I'm still not 100% sure it is yellow#5, b/c at times my lip or tongue will swell & I can't place what it was I ate....weird?!
