Weird Heating Question?

In one of our bedrooms whenever the heat comes on it smells like Maple Syrup!!! I know its hillarious but I hate the smell.

Has anyone ever experienced a weird smell coming from a heating vent or radiator??? What can we do???

It's so weird but and I don't know how to get rid of it. We live in a pre-war building with steam heat....I feel so stupid calling about a maple syrup smell

That's so strange! I've never experienced that...have you asked any neighbors if they have the same smell?

Try bleeding the system and cleaning the basebord or radiator in that room.

Sometimes with hot water/steam heat system you can get an odor (though I have never heard it described as a maple syrup smell) when the heat first comes up. A little concentrated cleaning may do the trick.

that is so funny! that is exactly what I call that smell! Maple Syrup! I think it has to do with oil burning on pipes or something.

ohhhh, so I am not crazy... There really may be an explanation for this smell. Last night I was convinced there were pancakes cooking on the heater.

I will call my super and have him take a look.

You know what, my car from when I was in high school used to smell like maple syrup when I put the heat on.
