weird question

weird question

FI and I were having a discussion about the bridal party, apparently he thinks that the people are supposed to supply themselves with their own tuxedos and bridesmaid dresses. I haven't really known that many people who have been married but I am wlling to bet that tradition says the bride and groom pay for it, it is hard to think that I would ask somebody to be apart of my weddding then tell them they need to pay for it

So I am asking you ladies how many of you had your bridal party purchase their own outfits???

Re: weird question

Our bridal party is paying for their own attire. If I could afford to pay for their clothing I would but it is just not feasable. I think they sort of know they are supposed to buy their own attire nowadays when they accept an invitation to be in a bridal party. JMO

Re: weird question

I paid for my dress for the wedding I was in this past summer. I have heard of some brides buying the dresses for their girls as their gift to them. Good luck!

Re: weird question

The bridal party is responsible for their own attire. It is the perogative of the bride and groom to cover this expense but it's not required.

Re: weird question

In Ireland (and probably other countries) the bride and the groom pay for the BM dresses and the tuxes (that's why their bridal parties are so much smaller) but in the US, the bridal parties pays for themselves.

Re: weird question

omg!!!! Well I am from London, so my bridal party is small and like I said I have not been to very many weddings. This is really something. I can't believe he was rite about this. But what happens if they can't afford it?

I have been a bridesmaid 3 times and a MOH once and I paid for ever dress myself.

Re: weird question

ok so for the people who have been brdiesmaids and brides, has anyone ever gotten mad at you for telling them they will have to pay for their own attire?

Re: weird question

it is customary for the bridal party to pay for their own attire. however, in lieu of giving the bridal party gifts, you can certainly pick up the tab for their attire - my cousin did that and it was appreciated quite a bit!!!

Re: weird question

Here it's not expected to be paid for by the bride and groom so there shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

Re: weird question

I have been in 4 weddings and in all of those I paid for my dress and the Groomsmen for their tuxes!
I think that 99.9% of BMs expect to pay for their own attire! I can't imagine anyone getting mad at this. I never did, nor have any of my BMs

Re: weird question

I've been in a few weddings and paid for all dresses but one. My friend's husband worked at Ann Taylor and she was having a very laid back wedding. She paid for our dresses--of course they came from Ann Taylor and of course she got a discount--but I think it was a really nice gesture. It's probably the only dress I've worn more than once, too.

I think BM's in this country expect to pay for their own dresses, but you can certainly help out by not requiring everyone to buy new shoes or maybe they can all wear different styles of black dresses so that they can get more than one use out of the dress.

BTW, NYCHICK, my fiance is English--what's your immigration situation?? I think we'll be moving to London after our wedding, if we can get a spousal visa for me.

Re: weird question

The bridal party is responsible for their own attire. I've been a BM a few times, always paid for my dress.
That said, I'm paying for half as part of their gift.

Re: weird question

I have been a bm/moh at least 5 times and every time WE were responsible for the attire. It is usually the bride's good judgment to pick out dresses that aren't going to break the bank for the bridesmaids. The guys' also pay for their own tuxes, although sometimes they will throw in the best man's or else the groom's.

All my BP paid for their own.

Re: weird question

If you would like to pay for your bridal party's attire for that day, by all means do it. It is not customary for you to, and your bridal party, I think, will not expect you to.
