***welcoming ceremony***long-sorry
I saw that a few of you have asked about this...I am the one that had one for Julianne...back on 4/5.
We are an interfaith couple- I'm Catholic and DH is Jewish. WE decided to raise our children ( only have one right now!) exposed to BOTH religions.
Our wedding ceremony was interfaith...presided by a rabbi and a Monsegneur. It was a GREAT ceremony ..and they explained each part of it to all the guests...so us Catholics learned a thing or 2 about our own religion!
So, for J was did the same thing. Not all diocese offer this type of ceremony. This was held at ST Thomas the Apostle Church in rockville ctr. ..in the church.
The first part of the ceremony was presided over by the rabbi.
He spoke about our blessed event...while DH and I, his parents and the g-dparents stood in the pulpit.
He spoke about the wonderful addtion to ALL our lives, explianed the 'naming' part of the ceremony..why she has a hebrew name and alos explained how we came to call her Julianne Sarah.
He spoke about my parents as well.(of course I cried). He included our guests in as much of the prayers as possible, said a blessing in Hebrew, and we were given some wine to drink.
Then the Monsig. came out, they shook hands and that part of the ceremony began explaining what baptism was about, what the symbols on the candle were, explained about the bib he gave her. He spoke about blessing her ears and her mouth. How we all must be careful what we say around her, that she is a sponge right now and will learn how to act and speak from listening to us.
Asked the G-dparents to be good examples of what a good moral person should be, and to make sure to be an active part of her life.
Then he poured the holy water over her- NO CRYING! yay...and he even said a blessing over Rob and I ...and mentioned how he had married us and how we have taken another step in faith by having a child.
Was a beautiful and touching ceremony.
I am so glad that our friend videoed it for us!
