Well NOW I feel incompetent
I was on the Knot's Somewhat Official Bio List and saw this one bride's bio. All I can say is 'WOW!' Her wedding looked beautiful and very personalized. It seems like she did a lot of it herself and is quite talented, which is both impressive and annoying at the same time because I'm sure there's no way at all I could hand calligraphy my own invitations, hand emboss my cocktail napkins, make my wine charm favors, etc. etc. So since misery loves company, I invite you all to feel incompetent as well

Sheesh! Now I feel like a real slacker! All her little details were so sweet and can you say COORIDINATED!? I think we all need to get with it and come up with some NEW trends of our own!I loved her card holder and stationery! Very copy-worthy! LOL

The first time through, I read the flower packet description wrong -- I thought she freeze-dried the petals herself!

Re: Well NOW I feel incompetent
Ladies please put it into perspective. While our weddings are important to us most of us don't have the luxury to drop everything and become completely obsessed about freeze-drying vs. not. Also think about it, she is so busy with everything what is she going to do after the wedding? She might be one of those brides who crashes and burns and get severely depressed when it's all over.Jennie, you are a lawyer! Nothing to shake a stick at girlfriend! As Hillary Clinton once said (and I'm quoting this not for political reasons and I paraphrase), 'what was I supposed to be doing, staying at home and baking cookies'. Jennie, if you worked at 'The Gas and Sip' of course you could do all of that but you have a demanding and important job. I have a sign in my house 'Martha Stewart Doesn't Live Here'. I refused to let these domestic divas let make me feel inadequate... I would like to see Martha teach high school. She can make a wreath but can she teach 17 year old seniors the wonders of the supply side economics and make it fun!! LOL
While our weddings are important, what's more important are our marriages... and freeze dried rose petals aren't going to help me get to my 25th wedding anniversary. Don't let them get you down

Please!!! Jennie, you are a first year associate and to make sure you are a second year associate in this market you have to work crazy hours. You do not have the luxury of freeze drying your own petals.
I was at a recent wedding and the favor was potpourri - freeze dried rose buds with some rose oil. That woman works with me so I know she bought those. In fact, as soon as she got back from her honeymoon she was knee deep in a brief that had to get out in 3 days. If you really want any of those touches, enlist your family or friends with the time to make them - or buy them.
God Bless all the women who have the luxury of making their wedding the ultimate personal day with every single little detail done by hand. We have jobs that are demanding.
Shoot, I was at a CLE seminar all day yesterday and still went in to the office at like 7 p.m. to get my billables in for the day. Sheesh, I wish FI would hit lotto.

Re: Well NOW I feel incompetent
I agree with David'sBride when she said, freeze drying rose petals won't get her to her 25th. That seems funny at first, but really it's so true. I think most brides do get too consumed with details, as do myself.I saw her bio and yes it's so 'picture perfect' from her cute home to her fortune tellers. And I commend her, excellent job. But incompetent? No way. We're just all different, with different priorities.
And in my mother's defense, I loved that she baked cookies for me. Her job is harder than any other job in the world.

Of course, instead of working right now, I'm on this website....what my boss doesn't know, won't kill him....

The after-pictures of the house look incredible!I don't feel intimidated by looking at her wedding pictures, somepeople just have more time to spend on wedding stuff than others. Either way, we'll all have beautiful weddings, even if we are lacking some of the small details!

Wow, she did have some amazing stuff and the fact that she made them..even better! It is nice to have TIME and money to make it the best.
The cufflinks for her husbands gift...OMG, tear. Placing a picture of his parents on their wedding day,to be there for his day! So sweet!
At least that helped in giving me some ideas. I like being creative.

Re: Well NOW I feel incompetent
Great ideas in her bio, and i agree the cufflink idea is AWESOME, but don't be jealous! or feel incompetent. there's no way i would put all that effort into freeze-drying roses and so-forth and miss out on spending time with my guy and enjoying TODAY! and things are NOT always what they seem!but i do love her calligraphy skills-PHEW unbelievable she did that herself!

I love this!! Very true. I think that even if I did have the time, I still wouldn't be able to pull all that off and have it look so good. I need to start practicing my calligraphy!

Re: Well NOW I feel incompetent
I don't think that even though the invites were 'hand calligriphied' and the napkins were 'hand emobossed' doesn't mean that SHE did them by hand. She made the wine charms and programs and put the petal envelopes together, but I don't think she did everything. She probably had a decent budget for all the little extras. I highly doubt she printed most of that stationary stuff herself. I'm by no means trashing this bride, because she did a beautiful job with her wedding, I'm just saying I think you're giving her a little too much credit.

but don't forget, I want it placed in an envelope scented with potpurri
Get crackin'... you don't need to sleep

Also remember girls... 'All that glitters is not necessarily gold'. A friend of mine once lived on the North Shore in a very exclusive community on the water. She's a pharmacist and started working up there... she said she never filled so many prescriptions for anxiety and depression medications in her life. These women seemingly have perfect lives... don't just a book by it's cover. Oh, she now works in Massapequa, she couldn't take working up there. As much time as you are spending wedding planning, we all must spend marriage planning
