Well that was an interesting interview...

Well that was an interesting interview...

So, I go in to interview for that 4th grade position. So, I find out they're going to departmentalize next year, and I'm interviewing for social studies.

Well, that's just about my dream job. In VA, they teach VA studies in 4th grade - I love the colonial period, etc. so this is perfect.

Well, great. Interview goes fairly well. There are smiles some 'good answers' I'm getting fairly confident. Not certain that i landed a job, but confident enough that i think I have a good shot.

So then, they give me a visitors pass and I go on my way to wander to the 4th grade pod. I go in, look around. It's the end of the day, so they're tying up some loose ends, student are doing some independent work, so I have a chance to chat with a few.

So I talk a bit, and then the subject comes up...

'So you're interviewing for the math position?'

huh?

'Um, they told me Social Studies'

damit, i knew it was too good to be true.

So, I don't know what happened... Did administration change their mind about having a 1st year teach math, and not tell 4th? Was there just some major miscommunication?

So, now I'm all confused. I'm not certain about taking the job if this is what is going to happen, but I'm also afriad that if I don't take the job, I might not get a chance at another.

Oy, I really don't like the idea of teaching math 5 times in a row.

Well, I find out middle of next week, so I'll keep you updated!

Im sorry i dont have an answer

How long do you have, if they offer you the position, to think about it???

its a toughie... i wouldnt want to be stuck without a teaching position at all, BUT if its not what you got into teaching to do, then youre not really fulfilling what you set out to do

but then again, maybe it would be good to get that 'experience' to have that under your belt, therefor making you more valuable.... BUT on the flip side, you dont want to get stuck in that....

UGHHHHHHHH i am no help. Im going to stop now.

i'm feeling so much conflict over this one, Debs... i cant even imagine how YOU must be feeling (since, afterall it is YOU in the position ). i'm stressed about this... i need to go have some tea

debs,

can you call back your interviewers and ask? sort of an 'i'm really interested in this job! can you just tell me exactly what it is?' call? maybe then they will ask you why you want to know, and you can say that although you like math and all, social studies would be your ideal job. and if they really liked you, your thoughts on the matter may sway them as to which position they offer you.

Lots of rumors fly around schools about what positions are being open for the next year. It still may be the social studies postion but the person who asked you the question wasn't aware of it.

I wouldn't worry about it until they call you back.

Yes, the previous post is correct... rumors abound. As one of the people who is the last to find out about happenings at my school (I stay away of the gossip, in my classroom and grade like a machine) if you asked me what was going on I wouldn't necessarily know. Maybe the person who told you is confusing it with another position that administration is also interviewing for.

Don't worry
