Well, the sh!t hit the fan

Remember how we were having problems in our apartment? Toilet not working for days at a time, floods from their stupidity, and our landlord continuously telling us he wants us to pay half the cable bill, but never telling us how much it was. Well, Mike went to hand the keys in last night and they tell us they are keeping our entire security deposit to pay for the cable bill. They also said we owe MORE than that.

They pulled out a folder of the last 2 years of cable bills and went over them with Mike. Why couldn't they just show us that damn bill whenever we asked what they'd like for cable?!?!? They are the ones that got the extra package for their Spanish channels. They even showed him numerous late fees because they couldn't afford the bills sometimes. (yes, which means the cable was cut-off numerous times) Had they told us how much it was, we would've said we didn't want it. It was a crazy amount for stupid cable.

I am soooo livid right now. I want to give them a bill for the nights without a toilet, the floods we had due to their incompetence, the items destroyed in the floods, etc. Plus, because the baby came early and we had no time to clean the place, my parents drove the 8 hours down here, just to clean the place. They busted their a$$es for no reason. I don't even want to let them know. We should've trashed the place. It doesn't matter because we're getting no money back.

Omg Kelly, I'm so sorry!!!!!!!!!!!! They've just big one giant PITA to deal with!!!!!!

1) DO NOT give them another DIME!!!!!!!
2) Go ahead and add up all those nights that the toilet flooded and the cost of damages. Then bring it to their attention if they try to get any more $$ out of you!!! That's absolutely unacceptable!!!!!!
3) Look at your lease, are they allowed to keep your security deposit to cover the Cable bill?

I'm just so glad that you and your family are finally out of there!!!!!

Kelly if you want an official nasty lawyer letter about your security deposit etc, send me FM and I'll give you phone # and we can discuss the entire thing.

that is SO ANNOYING. I am so sorry that your parents cleaned the place. As they say, 'let no good deed go unpunished'

and recoommend that you look at your new residence and your handsome new baby and realize that 4 years from now, you won't even remember these low life idiots who you rented from.....
they sound like total garbage.

You should have your lawyer type up a letter and send it to them. Was it a legal rental? My friend lived in an 'illegal' apt and had issues, the people just didn't want to get caught so they gave them their deposit back.

That's what I was going to ask. Is it a legal appt? If not, tell them you are going to report them if you don't get your deposit back.

Please do check your lease to see if this is legit. I have never heard of a LL being able to keep the security to cover the Cable bill - and especially late fees that had NOTHING to do with the tenant?
