Well yesterday I took my moms car and ..... Scott and other car people question?

I took moms new car to mercedes so that I could get the oil changed I worked at night and my dad went to Florida cause they have a condo in West Palm he had to go and check the damage (which thankfully there is only a little of). Mom had to work and you have to make an appt. So I took the car and dropped it off last night. Well this morning my mom calls me and says you have to come over and help me you left the moonroof open last night and it rained really hard and the entire car is flooded. She opened the back door and the water was just pooring out. She didn't know where the Shop Vac was and I think she was freaking out becasue no one was home Im not their anymore my brother lives in Florida and my dad is away. I feel so bad.

I think what happened was that the moonroof sometimes doesn't close. Like I hit the button it closes half way and then rolls back open. I remember hitting the button to close it yesterday but it must have reopened.

My mom is totally freaked out. She went to Atlantic city and asked me to take the car (but not to open the moonroof) and park it in the sun and open the windows. She gave me her credit card and told me to goto the car wash cause maybe they have high powered dryers or some crap... She doesn't want the car to smell. I think she is crazy. I don't want to goto the car wash and look like a dumb blonde? What do you think?

Honestly I wouldnt go near the car wash....You need to park the car with all 4 doors open or all 2 doors open and the moonroof......and let the sun dry the carpet.

You also need to have the car vaccumed with a wet vac....You gotta suck as much water as possible out of the carpet.

If I were in your situation and this happen I would suggest bringing it to the dealer or a mechanic.....Maybe an interior shop too....What will work is to take the entire interior out.....and that includes the seats and the carpet and let the interior dry out of the car....If there was that much water in the car then there is a big chance there will be mildew and the interior will smell.

You need to remove the foam padding that is under the carpeting and let it dry out or replace it....and then you need to dry everything under the padding.

You also may start experiencing electrical problems. The water may really mess the car up....I would suggest selling the car after all this is done because you will only be stuck with problems from this incident..>Flood Damage is a nightmare to deal with.

Yikes.

The car is a lease. She is scared to call the dealer.

EWWW that bites!
Sorry to hear this. Being as I just returned our leased vehicle, I understand.
*hugs*

All I can say this is…
We didn’t LEASE our vehicle from the place we picked it up. In other words, is your mothers lease WITH Mercedes Leasing? If not, don’t worry about taking the car in. Also, a lot of repairs we did to the car (including warranty work) was not done at the place we picked up the car. No one really cared. Leased or not, they fix the problems. I guess what I’m trying to say is they don’t keep a tally of Mrs. Smith’s damage for the lease return/trade in.

Good Luck!

Thanks Veronica, The car is leased through Mercedes. They got in Florida and had it transported here (saved a sh!tload of money) Mercedes has free service IE why I had to take it to merceds for the oil change it was free. Whenever something breaks IE cup holder break light They fix it no charge. She is worried about them knowing there was water damage. But you see she noticed the moon roof wasn't work right it would close halfway and reopen and I think this is what happened and I didn't realize it. I have a moonroof in my car and it is alway opened (even in the winter) and I always close it. She she was thinking maybe she could say its a warrantee issue with the moonroof BUT at the same time they will probably say it was here that day why didn't you get it checked?

Take the car to the car wash and have them do a complete interior shampoo.

This should remove any smell that you will have from drying the car in the sun. And I am pretty sure the car will smell a little bad after the water was soaking in there for days.

We found the shop vac vacc. up all the water. She is worried more about the seats and such (they are leather but they have timy air holes in it) The car doesn't smell.

ETA: the car doesn't smell yet.

Well with the seats, you may have to have the leather taken off th seat itself and let the seat dry out or replace the inside of the seat....Keep the windows open this weekend...Its supposed to be nice out.

You might be covered by insurance. Check with your agent.

If a hammer 'accidently' hits the sunroof glass and breaks it... you would definitely be covered. Minus your comprehensive deductable of course.
