Went to a Wedding!

At Majestic Gardens in Rocky Point yesterday. I have never been there before and it was really pretty with the fountains outside. The cocktail hour was HUGE, I have never seen that much food at a a cocktail hour, besides cheese, crackers, vegetables, caviar, etc. there was a carving board with corned beef and steak and a HUGE seafood table with lobster, clams, shrimp, octopus, calamari etc. (Not sure if this was add ons for all you MG brides out there but the amount of food was incredible!). The vienese hour was just as big and they had a cigar bar which was a huge hit (esp with my FH and friends!) They must have had about 280 people so this was a large wedding, the room was plenty big for this amount of people. The service was very good at the tables and at the bars. The dinner was choice of filet mignon, chicken, or swordfish, I had the filet which was very good and everyone else had the chicken and swordfish and they said that was really good too. I honestly liked that you were not served your food right after you came in from the cocktail hour (since I was so full), so by the time the dinner came out, I could at least eat a little. Her centerpieces were these silver candelabras that were NOT dripless candles so the wax was everywhere. The plates on the table matched her color theme, which was different (again, not sure if this is MG's way of doing things). Our favors were wine with their pic on them and a cute heart bottle stopper, I didn't like that they didn't put them on the tables though, you got them as you were leaving. I think people were leaving with more than 1 per couple, fine if you had more than enough or they could have had one wine bottle per couple.

All in all, it was a very nice wedding, hope this gives a good review to MG brides to be out there and rests any fears they may have! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Went to a Wedding!

We're giving out wine bottles (1 per person) too and we're planning to have them on table for guests to take as they leave. I wanted to put them on the tables at the beginning of the night, but there won't be enough room. People will then have them on the floor, etc. and it will be a mess.

Why didn't you like how they were given out? Because some people took more than one?

Re: Went to a Wedding!

I could see that they would block people's view if the bottles were on the table but I think people were taking more than one since they were on the tables as you left. I guess if you allowed for that extra bottle here and there then it would be OK but if you did one per couple and people take 2 per couple then you would be short. I mean someone was there to give them out but people were going in and out and I am sure many people got more than 1. Does this make sense? I think it is a cute idea, especially with the bottle stopper too.

Re: Went to a Wedding!

Yeah, you definitely run the risk of someone taking more than 1, but come on, how greedy can someone be?!
1 gift per person is the most anyone would get as a favor, so I really hope my guests are happy enough with that! LOL

Re: Went to a Wedding!

I totally agree Teri but like you said if you base 1 per person, you will be fine. Maybe that was what was supposed to happen but I was used to one per couple sort of gifts.

Re: Went to a Wedding!

YEAH!!!! I'm getting Married at Majestic Gardens in 34 days
We actually picked the same entree choices, filet mignon with a wine sauce, grilled swordfish (FI's idea) and chicken breast stuffed with ricotta & prosciutto & tomato sauce......MMM, I cant wait!!

Did they offer seconds to the guests?? What was the appetizer/ salad? We are doing a combo, so instead of having an appetizer and a salad- we combined them and are having chicken ceasar salad.

How was the wedding cake?

Thanks for the great review!!

Re: Went to a Wedding!

Lisa...we are getting married the same day!!! Yahoo! How is your planning coming?

They did offer seconds, pretty fast into the meal and everyone refused but I think that is always great to offer. Your chicken choice sounded better, we had chicken francais. Is your cocktail hour going to have as much food? The amounts were unbelievable! NO ONE will go hungry, believe me. They did the ceaser salad with duck, it was OK. I didn't have the wedding cake, I am not a big wedding cake fan but I did try the cheesecake and mousse, ice cream, and another cake....can't resist desserts

Best of Luck to you in 34 days!!

Re: Went to a Wedding!

There was a DJ and I don't know the name...he was OK. They did the centerpiece giveaway pretty early in the night which I have never seen before or really liked. They made people come out on the dance floor to win it, I thought that should happen later when people have a few drinks in them!

Re: Went to a Wedding!

i also went to a wedding this past sunday where the favors were wine bottles which were stacked on the side during the reception and put at each seat while people were getting dessert for vienese hour, I thought that worked well.
