Went to a wedding in Maryland this weekend

Do you guys want a mini review?

While all the components of a NY wedding were there, there were some real differences.

I had a great time though.

It was in Easton MD which is in the outer banks..east shore.

It's a resort town but very teeny. There is nothing going on in that area..

The place:

The Oaks Inn:
It was a nice place-good service. The big thing there that everyone was talking about was the 5 hr open bar! They've never seen that before. There was way more booze than food though. Really anemic in the food department compared to NY. But what was there was good. I had the filet-it was overdone but still had good taste. We were served salad and main and cake.

The photographer they had was great-they way he set up shots you could really tell he was a pro. He showed me some of the shots on his camera and they were gorgeous. They had the ceremony there set up on the lake with an arbor. Their doggie was the ring bearer! I have pics I'll upload tomorrow. Their photographer took all of our names and email addresses and will set up a website so we can see them all.

I went solo w/o DH but stayed at the Tidewater Inn. Very old, gentile place..little stuffy smelling, clean and good service. The best bed I ever slept in. They B&G arranged for a shuttle to and from the hotels for us. That was really appreciated since we didn't really eat...all we did was drink!

Sounds great! Minus the somewhat lack of food. I think my FH's family from PA is going to be in for a surprise when they come to the wedding. The first time I took FH to a LI wedding he thought the cocktail hour was the dinner!
Thanks for the review...I love hearing about weddings!

OOT bags had 2 water bottles, some hersheys chocolate and some cashews. Nice touch.

The DJ didn't really play dance music until after dinner. For the most part that doesn't happen in NY..he was unobtrusive and played a good mix. I could tell he played what the B&G wanted because there were some songs that only they danced to.

The flowers were hard to describe but they were beautiful. Purples and pinks. Her BMs wore black tea length strapless dresses, her one JR BM wore yellow chiffon (?)

For the most part, I was overdressed. I wore a spaghetti strap black long dress. I had my hair done at the salon attached to the hotel which was great. The updo cost $45. My friend's brother for some reason was not in the bridal party and went wearing pants and short sleeved shirt and sneakers. One woman was in spandex.

He later told me he was offended he didn't get asked. I was too hammered to go any further with that conversation.

The after party was on the deck of the place outside. Coolers full of beer, one bottle of vodka that I protected with my life!

We took a cab back to the hotel and I promptly passed out.

Forgot to add the favors:

Little glass jars with honey in them and a cork (really cute) It had a little bee charm around the neck. Underneath were their names and the date. Very cute. I didn't take one home but most thought it was very nice.

i'm from Maryland, weddings there are VERY different from LI. My parent's can't believe our catering alone is more than my sisters spent on their entire wedding!! in general, the parties are much more casual, with less food and shorter.

Funny you mention that! I live in MD now and had lunch with FSIL on Sat. I showed her the pages and pages of food choices we had to make for our LI wedding and she was blown away. I think the wedding good is gonna rock FH's family's world!

No doubt..I told my friend it was a great party and they did a great job, but I had to keep it in perspective..it was great and I had a great time but it was not a NY wedding.

He said that it meant a lot coming from me...I meant it though..but man, I could have used a snack after!

also I forgot to mention since we were drinking our faces off and the bartender made my cosmos extra special for me I tipped him toward the end of the night. He didn't want to take it! I had to practically force him to take it!

The man made me something like 15 drinks..

I'm beginning to understand that no place does weddings like we do here...Is that good or bad? I just know that my family can't wait to come to a NY wedding. They are all expecting something grand I think. We're just gonna do our thing..
