Hey ladies - I went to a wedding on Saturday night and I just wanted to give a little review. The wedding was in Brooklyn at a place called the Riviera. I have not heard anything about this place but hoped this would be helpful....
The reception hall was beautiful - really nice chandeliers and the food was good (not great but good!) - The couple did the things a little different in that they had the CH first and then the ceremony and then the reception. We had a lot of fun and had a lot of food to choose from (12 choices I think) then we were offered 2nds which was nice. SOrry this is so renadom I'm kinda just typing as I think of things....
Hmmm...one thing that was nice was that when we came up to the reception there was appetizers at the table that you helped yourself to. There was two things of shrimp cocktail (1 shrimp per person) and there was sushi and caviar and cheese and an antipasta type dish - only downside to this was that the salad was also there and I personally like to get my own salad (that may be goofy) They also did a vienesse hour which was a lo of fun! what a small world!! I was at the wedding too. The reason why they did the cocktail hour first was bacause the Rabbi won't show up till after sun down on the sabath. Another thing that was different about Riveria was right before the dinner was served they waiters came out with white gloves holding two chickens on a spear that was lit with flames .... but by midnight I was craving my dinner.

Were they Russian? I know the Russian tradition is to have a cocktail hour before the ceremony.
Riviera is beautiful, and it's one wedding at a time!

I am not sure that is a Russian tradition-- I know that in my parent's day-- a lot of the weddings were done like this (well, Jewish weddings) since a rabbi will not marry you til after sundown... now we just do everything late!!

Having the cocktail hour first was actully nice because you go there eat and then go to the cermony so it gives you a chance to get hungry again for dinner!
