Went to a wedding...Here's my review!
I went to a wedding at John Anthony's this weekend...an old friend from high school's wedding- she looked fabulous! Before I start I want to say that I have been to 3 other weddings there where the food and service have been outstanding, and after all is said and done I would still reccomend this place to anyone.
So here is my review on the place...
Cocktail hour- Deeeeeeeeeelicious! Consisted of seven stations including- Carving (3 meats); Itialian station which served veal, eggplant rollatini, seafood rice mixture, chicken in a lemon sauce, and something else I can't remember...; elaborate italian cold display with cheeses, hams, prosciutto, olives, fruits, etc.; Wok Station with an array of stir fries, dumplings and sushi; Seafood boat w/ clams, oysters, shrimp cocktail, shrimp scampi and oysters rockafeller; Vodka and Caviar station; and a small Gnochi station served with some kind of meat. They also had white gloved waiters passing hot and cold hors d'houvres throughout! Needless to say the cocktail hour kicked butt!!!!
Main reception dinner- Good to not so good...
Well they started us off with a grilled vegetable salad that had fresh mozzarella over greens. It was really dry with practically no dressing on it. The second course was a spinach ravioli which would have been absolutely DELICIOUS- had it been hot. Served at room temperature is cold in my book! Main course had a choice of Filet Mignon served in a Pastry thing, Macadamia crusted Sea Bass, or chicken franchaise. I had the fish and it was GREAT! The chicken looked good too. Several people at my table ordered the filet mignon and it was extremely overdone...so bad that they couldn't eat it. I am not sure if it was because we were one of last tables served and the meat may have overcooked itself while waiting to be served- but regardless, all plates should be equal in quality- right?
Dessert was yummy. They served a chocolate Tartufo along w/ the cake. The cake was good too. The service all in all was great- my drink was Never empty and our waiter was very attentive.
DJ- DanceJock...They were really fun. People were dancing most of the night- there was only one point where the bride had to request him to play more upbeat music after he had slowed it down (for too long) for people to eat. I learned that a fun DJ depends a lot on what kind of songlist you provide before hand!
Photographer- Steve at Patken!! For all you Patken ladies out there- I have to say that the bride specifically mentioned to me how great he was throughout the day and that she would highly reccomend him! We'll see for sure when her pictures come in!
Video- Candlelight...don't really have any comments on them except that they were very unintrusive throughout the reception- I guess that's a good thing!
Flowers- Florissima, in Huntington- Beautiful! She had a wide, low centerpiece with 3 candles coming out of them. They were very pretty and colorful w/ mango callalilies, white and pink roses and some other fillers. They were very pretty.
Favors- The bride made a very creative card to present the fact that they made a donation to a Charity in memory of her brother. It was beautiful and very sweet.
I will post pictures once I get them developes and scanned.
Thanks for letting me share
