Went to first night of Pre Cana last night!

Went to first night of Pre Cana last night!

Can I just say, I LOVE it!! My FH was NOT looking forward to it, but I really think he liked it, too. He's not a talker... I am. And I was really surprised at how much he opened up! And I got all teary eyed when he spoke about me! (I LOVE MY FH!!)

I just really think it's SO beneficial to talk openly with other couples - married and nearlyweds - about issues that face everyone. And the group we had last night was really good. Anyone who has yet to do this... I really think it further enhances the relationship. And that was just one night!

That sounds great! You weren't embarrassed with the other couples around? How many other people were there?

We aren't doing Pre Cana but I always wondered what you talked about? Someone once told me that their FH was told he was stuck on a rowboat in the middle of the ocean with his mother and his wife. He had to choose to let one of them die in order to save the other; which would he choose?

I was like, WHOA. Heavy.

It was supposed to be an illustration about how his wife is now the most important person in his life, and what that committment means.

But throwing Mom overboard? Way harsh!

Some of precana was okay. I like the communication discussions. THe night the natural family planning doctor and practicing natural family planning couples coming to talk about their sex life I could have done without.

OMG! I hope they don't ask us that! lol. I would jump in the ocean rather than make that decision!
That's TERRIBLE to make a couple choose like that!

My FH felt more uncomfortable going in than when he was actually in there. I think it's because he saw that there were other guys our age who obviously did NOT want to be there. lol. And since EVERYONE opened up - and we were all in the same boat (that damn, boat again...lol) - I think he felt okay opening up. It really was beneficial.

We are in a group with 4 nearlyweds and 2 married couples. There's another group with the same combo that will meet separately... so last night it was everyone together - and the deacon, who is WONDERFUL.

Glad to hear you had a good time.

Tonight is our first official meeting. On sunday we had our intro meeting and two couples didn't show up, so tonight should be better at someones house. The only thing that stinks is I have an after work meeting so I have to go straight there after here.

I thought Pre Cana was just for people getting married? I didn't know married couples attended too. I guess that's sort of like marraige counseling?

Well, the married couples are the ones that lead the sessions. They bring up the topic - and open up their lives and marriages to help prepare us for what issues we may expect.

The test you take is kind of funny though, there were some absurd questions on there.

Ours was cool because we didn't have to talk to anyone else, just FH and I discussing our worksheets together. They split up the guys and the girls for 10 minutes at a time to fill out these different worksheets, then you met up with your FH and traded worksheets. It was a neat way to see what they felt about different things without have to share with the entire group.

We didn't have to take the test and some parts were very boring, but overall it was a good experience.
