Went to ground zero last night and was utterly disgusted.

My Dh and I went to ground zero last night to place flowers at the site and say a prayer or two. I know I addressed this once before but I cannot believe they are building on that site once again. A part of me knows it has to be done but for the most part, I cant get over it.

It wasnt as crowded there as I thought it would be but for the most part everyone that was there was extremely respectful. Whenever I go there, I go as if it were a cemetary or church..quietly and respectful, peaceful and for lack of a better word, sullen. One group of people were hysterically crying because they had lost both their son and daughter in the attacks. I started to cry myself. I found the names of the people I knew personally and as I was saying one final prayer, a group of so called women were walking past. They were yelling, cursing, acting disrespectful, talking about their men and the like and I just couldnt believe it. I know that many people are down there on a daily basis and we shouldnt stop our lives but I found this to be so wrong. They were intruding on my prayers, others peoples pain and most of all I feel all the people that were lost there.

I dont know if this would bother anyone else but I truly felt like telling them to shut up. I just cant get over how sometimes people are so insensitive. People were even giving them dirty looks and they actually had the nerve to say '*** you lookin at'

It amazes me..

Truly baffles my mind.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Some people are just rude, inconsiderate jerks!!! Thery are not sensitive to others feelings and are self-absorbed. Unfortunately they will probably never admit it or realize it.

I was there on Saturday. I just like to go at different times and just look and say a prayer.

When it first happened I cant tell you how many fights I got into because of people taking pictures. It annoyed me to no end.

Now I just go and try to ignore those people. I walk to church street and just gaze into the open space that once stood the towers.

I think i get so caught up in my own thoughts I just block out everything around me.

they had no respect. you need your solitude. the place where those towers once stood is a very sad place. people should tread with decency and respect near those grounds.

Unforunately I had a similar experience. I went there last year to give my respects and there were people ther 'SIGHTSEEING'..laughing and carryin on..i got so upset..its not like you're looking at the statue of liberty or something NICE..I had to leave and cried the whole way home!

I work down there and was walking to the subway one night and saw a girl laying down in front of the fence on the ground actually posing like she was in a F*cking centerfold smiling and her friends were laughing an taking pics.

After they took the picture I would have thrown the camera over the fence and said, thanks...someone who died here may have wanted that for a birthday in the future.

yea it is a real shame when people appear detached, but i try to write it off as everyone has their own way of dealing with things... that helps ME deal.
