Went to see Colonial Terrace last weekend...a review

Hey everyone. I know this forum is for Long Island Wedding locations etc, but I’m a Bronx bride and I’m looking at Westchester, Queens and Long Island. I went to visit the Colonial Terrace last weekend, located in Cortlandt Manor, NY (about an hour away from the Throgs Neck Bridge) and I figured I would share my impressions. If you don’t want me to post about non-LI venues just let me know and I will stop.

I must say that when my fiancé and I met with Annie, we were so surprised at how friendly and accommodating she was! She told us that the venue has been in her family for 3 generations and it is a completely a family run operation. She made us feel very welcome and at home. She gave us a very complete tour of the venue, including the outside grounds, two different hall rooms (depending on the size of the party) and the upstairs with the bridal suites.

I’ll do a review piece by piece:

The outside grounds: Very pretty, well manicured lawn and flower gardens. I would like an outdoor ceremony so the outside is very important to me. Unfortunatly I wasn’t “WOWed” by the grounds, although very pretty. They were setting up for a wedding that day, so I got to see where everything would be placed and how it would all look. I wasn’t really a fan of the set up, I felt like the ceremony area was a little small and pretty close to the parking lot. Also, the outdoor area for the cocktail hour was also small and basically white plastic tables and chairs on a cement floor with a tent overhead. It wasn’t dirty, or ugly….and maybe I just have way too high of expectations, but I just wasn’t “WOWed” (sorry I can’t really describe it better).

The large ballroom: Very pretty! Wooden dance floor, but all around the hall is carpeting which I felt was a little outdated. Again, they were setting up for a wedding that night so it looked very nice. The party that night was for a little under 150 people, and mine looks to be about 300….so it wasn’t the full effect. I saw where the food stations would be for an inside cocktail hour, and I felt like the area would be a little small for my party. Also, the carpet…I’m really not a fan of carpet. The ball room its self looked really pretty with nice windows letting light in…with beautiful lighting anyway. One thing I did like, is in the back of the ballroom, you have an option to have some food stations (like a Mexican station or Asian station, whatever) and during the actual reception, in addition to the sit down dinner, people have the option to munch on the food stations in the back. That looked pretty cool to me.

The one brial suite i saw was a little small, but had a full bathroom (very clean) and closet space. They did have a very nice 'conference room' with a large flat screen TV. That night's bridal party was there doing their makeup so we didnt stay long.

I must say, I will be going back for a tasting…but this venue is not really in my top 3. Although the staff was very accommodating and friendly, the venue itself isn’t exactly what I am looking for. I really could just be a spoiled brat…but oh well (haha).

Once I go for the tasting with my parents I’ll let everyone know how the food was.

Oh yea, prices were awesome too. About 95-100 per person, but Annie said that could be negotiated. Oh course there is 12% gratuity and sales tax separate.

Hope this helps, but again this is a VERY personal review and I would tell anyone who is looking at this venue to go for themselves and check it out!
