Re: Went to the Post Office to weight our invites...
Hi, JMO, but I would double check it with another post office. I brought my daughters invites in to the Bellmore post office. They weighed it and even said since I had them addressed them vertical not horizontal it now becomes a large envelope so I would have to pay a 13 cent surcharge. NO PROBLEM That would have been a 58 cent stamp and a 13 cent stamp but since the 13 cent stamp was ugly I said I will put on two pretty 41 cent stamps on instead and have an extra 11 cent on them. So now I stamp everything bring it to Bellmore and they hand cancelled them no problem. I had a few extra ones that I had to mail out so the next day I went to the wantagh post office. The invite was stamped and I asked her to hand cancel....she weighed it anyway and said.... OH THESE NEED 97 CENTS ON THEM.... I didn't know what to do so ran to Bellmore hoping they didn't send them out but of course they did already. Told this to them and I brought a blank invite over to them and then someone other teller said oh well I guess it would have been better to put 97 cent on them. Just PRAY AND CROSS YOUR FINGERS. WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway all the invites got there but it was nerve wracking. SOOOOOOOOOOO.... that is why I would double or triple check it. Sorry so long.

Not to rain on your happy dance, but I agree. MY DOC was told at a PO in NYC my invites were 97 cents to mail and when FH and I went out to mail them in Howard Beach, we were told since they are thicker than normal and wouldn't go thru the machine properly, they were an extra 45 cents!! So FH and I bought the 58 cent wedding stamps to add to the 2 we already had on the envelopes! Just check them again right before you hand them over- it's not just the weight but the shape and the thickness too!! I am sure it will all be ok!!

I had this problem, too. TWO post offices tol d me $0.58 was fine. All but 9 invites were delivered... but NINE, HAND-CANCELED invites were returned for postage due.
Hopefully by now, though, they are used to the new rates and I'm sure they gave you the right info.

I also recommend that you have it double checked at another post office... TWO different post offices told me my invites would be one of THREE different denominations!
One P.O. told me it would be $1.14, another teller at that same p.o. told me it would be $.90. She worked there for 20+ years so told me I should trust her and that it would be $.90. Well, I didn't trust her, lol. I went to another p.o. and the first teller told me it would be $.75! Then another teller came over and said that because it's 'larger' it would actually be $.90.. I eventually had a group of FIVE agents at the Rockefeller post office and they finally agreed that it would actually be $1.14.
So whatever, I suckkked it up and am putting $1.14 on each envelope. I just don't want them to come back to me!
