went to vote last night and was asked if it was my first time!
Okay, I've yet to miss an election. Heck, this year is the first year I ever missed voting in the primary.. but it was my first time voting in person in NY.
In college (turned 18 at the end of my senior year of HS), I voted via absentee ballot. After that, I lived in NC and voted there. Then in law school, I was still technically an NC resident, so I voted via absentee ballot in NC.
So this was the first year I voted in NY in person, and I'd never seen these sorts of voting things before. NC is a paper ballot and you literally use a marker to vote.
ANYWAY, I knew about the switches and the lever, but I did not know that you had to move the lever to close the curtain.
I figured it out before I needed help, but when I stepped out of the booth, the guy working there (older gentleman) asked me if it was my first time voting... I felt like an idiot - well, and was maybe a little offended he thought I made it to this age and had never voted. I explained it to him and he was like 'Oh, they don't have booths like this in NC?'
Grr... oh, and trying to explain to the older people who were working there why FH and I Have the same address, but different last names was interesting, too. THey were like, 'but aren't you married?' Uh... not yet.

Yea is always aggrevating when i go vote. They are like is this your first time, i said no then they put me on one line and old ladies come up to me going oh good a young person out to vote. I AM 27!!! *** because that is insane that no one came out to vote.

I think what's said is that they don't see enough young people voting! Or heck, enough people at all voting!

that's funny!!! glad to hear you've always been an active voter even if it's using an absentee ballot- more people need to vote!!

That's funny. don't feel bad, my FH went to vote with me last night. It was his 2nd time voting since the last president election and he had no clue how to close the curtain. I actually had to tell him.
Honestly though, I have voted many times and I still get frazzled when I go in there and I do forget myself that you have to pull the lever.

I definitely felt like an idiot, but at least I figured it out on my own.
Oh the hazards of our civic duty!

I am glad to know that I am not alone! One of my BMs and I went to vote on the way to the gym yesterday and the guy asked if it was my first time voting- now granted I did have on my gym clothes, but I don't think I look that young!! So I said to him, no I'm actually 24!
