we're back in the Fire Island house and reporters are showing up
My friends/ housemates were interviewed and posed for pictures for the NY Times. They had a great time with it and I just hope that the media doesn't twist things too much! They said that the house looks great. I'll be out there for a few days next week and next weekend. So, my claim to fame will be that I got engaged in that house. But the show will probably be very stupid. Oh well!

Re: we're back in the Fire Island house and reporters are showing up
There was an article about this in yesterday's times on the cover of the style section. The second page has photos and some quotes from my housemates. The article isn't very accurate, but I love the title of the article, 'Reality TV: The Unwelcome Guest.'
The improvements to the house were not major, after all. We have a few extra things now but the house has also taken a lot of wear and tear.

Re: we're back in the Fire Island house and reporters are showing up
what happened in a nutshell. this is taken from my original post, but I made some changes, based on what happened after that post.
The Fire Island beach house that my DH and BIL rent and run as a sharehouse is being taken away from us for several weeks this summer and it will be used for the filming of a new show called Summer Share (name has now been changed to One Ocean View). While this is happening, our group will be given 2 other houses to stay in. The 2 houses do not compare to the one we are giving up, though. When it is over, we'll get to move back into the newly pimped out house that was used for taping the show. We are all getting a good portion of our money back for the rental, but whatever. Dealing with this has not been easy, though, and the deal seems to change on a daily basis. Stay tuned for more changes. Our group of friends will be separated into the 2 smaller houses. When we get back to our house, we' be dealing with gawkers and security issues. (Unfortunately. that WAS a somewhat accurate prediction). It doesn't seem like anyone who has a house on Fire Island even wants to see this happening (that sentiment got worse over time). We really didn't have a choice. Our landlord is getting paid a lot of money.
I'm going try to make the best of it and it will be fun to see our house on TV. Some of my friends went to parties with the cast members and signed waivers to be on the show. That part should be fun to see. (Now we are back in the house).
Now that I have seen the filming and the newspaper articles, I don't think the show will be accurate at all! I'm still going to watch it.
My LIW friends have gotten me through some of the behind the scenes happenings--I may post about some of that after the summer is over. Right now I just want the share members to have a really good time. We all get along so well and everyone has taken this in stride. No one in our group of renters gave my DH or his brother a hard time even though DH and his brother are the house managers.
There are some photos in my LIW album and I may update it later, with pictures from this past weekend.

Re: we're back in the Fire Island house and reporters are showing up
Well, the first episode was on this week. It was D.A.S. (Dumb as ****). It was neat to see all the familiar places, even if nothing about the show was realistic (unless you believe that we all show up at the beach in a suit and tie and we all drag our luggage through the sand instead of on an actual road, and we all talk non stop about how good looking we are).
I was watching and thinking things like, 'those people are using our plates and glasses.'
ETA--I'm taking bets on whether the show lasts for 6 episodes. That is what it is scheduled for but as I said, it's pretty bad! DH says that it has to run for 6 episodes b/c ABC has nothing else to put in that slot. I say that I am sure they can find something! I hope it continues but only because I know some people who were filmed and I'd want to see them.

Whatever, I go to the beach in heels and a full length gown And I have people carry my luggage for me as they tell me how good looking I am
But seriously - people are not enjoying it and I'll be surprised if they actually run all six episodes of that show.
P.S. Make your landlord buy you new plates/glasses/utensils

My friend and BIL are probably in the next episode, if only briefly. Everyone keeps talking about how bad the show is and that guy Usman is the butt of every joke at the house now!

I know, it's so bad. But in case you haven't had enough (though it seems that EVERYONE has), this was forwarded to me in an e-mail:
You're invited to join the cast of One Ocean View
Monday, August 7th at Katra 217 Bowery at the corner of Rivington
Event starts at 8:30pm
The show will be on from 10pm-11pm
After the show, enjoy two DJ's mixing hip hop, rock, 80's and house and mingle with the cast.
This beautiful newly opened room has two floors. Plush couches line the perimeter for seating. Two flat screen TV's along with a large projector will be showing One Ocean View.
The kitchen will be open with a full menu designed by the infamous Jean Georges.
