we are beginning to look at houses and we were looking on mlsli and noticed that houses in westbury are less expensive. What's the story? I don't know much about long island so I don't know what neighborhoods are good and what neighborhoods are not so good.
Anyone know anything about westbury?

I don't think Westbury is such a good neighborhood. I don't want to offend anyone but I know it has a very city feel to it and the school systems aren't very wonderful.

Salisbury is a nice area or Westbury. There are not so nice areas too.

There are sections of Westbury that are in Westbury schools and there is a part that is in E. Meadow schools. I don't think there is a part in E. Williston schools.

I live in Carle Place and used to live in Westbury/Carle Place school district. The bad parts of Westbury are New Cassel.
The part of Westbury that is good is between Carle Road and Ellison Ave. anything after Ellison Avenue is Westbury school district but still a very nice area. A bunch of people that i know that live in the Westbury school district area send there kids to private schools.
What street was the house on I can tell you if it is the nice part or the bad part.

My husband grew up in the Salisbury area. When we were looking for houses I was told to only look at homes in the East Meadow school district. That was the determining factor. There are some cute houses in Westbury, near the town, but they are in the Westbury school district (which isn't very good and thus the house prices are lower). Also stay away fre New Cassel

I grew up there and there are some beautiful houses in Westbury. Not only in Salisbury but near the Music Fair and off Jericho and Post Avenue. The reason the price is low is the school district is horrible! Most people send the kids to private. It is a nice community, lots going on. Stay away from New Cassel and you should be fine.

I grew up in Salisbury and I really wanted to try to buy a house there but they were so expensive. The bad parts of Westbury are also called New Cassel, the difference is the school district, though there are some very nice houses close to post avenue....but you have the problem with the school district being Westbury. You want the East Meadow schools.
