Westchester Real Estate

Hi all,

My fiance and I are house/condo hunting. We both work in CT (Stamford and Norwalk respecively) I live in Queens currently but would like to find a place closer to work.

We looked in Norwalk but really don't want to live there so we wanted to look in Westchester. I have no idea about Westchester and what areas are nicer.

Different people have suggested White Plains? or Rye? or Harrison? New Rochelle? I have no idea if these places are expensive, nice or what. Any feedback would be great! Also if you know around what range a 2 bedroom condo or house would cost in any of these areas, please send me an FM! Also, what sites or magazines do you look for westchester listings besides Realtor.com

I guess school districts are important too? There are so many towns so close together, its hard to figure out whats good or not!

Thanks in advance!

Re: Westchester Real Estate

FH and I moved to White Plains about a year ago, since i work in Westchester. We have a 2 bedroom co-op.

When I was looking, i used YHD Foxtons - they show you waht the inside of the apt looks like. We had a great realtor - FM me if you want her info.

I think Rye and Harrison are more expensive.

Re: Westchester Real Estate

Hi!

I am an expert in this area. My husband and I are about to close on a condo community in Chappaqua New York.

We spent six months looking in Westchester and for school, proximity to the city, land and price settled on Rye Brook, Rye, Chappaqua, and Armonk- which is very close to the Connecticut border. The school systems are all fabulous here. Stick with these areas- you cant go wrong.

To answer your question, Harrison is closer to the city, wonderful but very expensive (I grew up there). The school systems in New Rochelle and Harrison is not that great though. Neither in White Plains.

Our RE's were from many companies. You have to be well represnted in this market- Houlihan Lawrence, Realty3, Julia B Fee- Rnadolph Properties and Weichert.

I will FM with prices in a second. Hope that this helps!
