We had a bad leak in our basement from the rains last week and have had multiple waterproofers come and take a look. We're not 100% sure where the water is coming in from because the walls have sheet rock. One waterproofer said to inject the holes/cracks with epoxy. The other 2 waterproofers say french drains and sump pumps.
Have any of you had any experiences with water in the basement? What was the problem and the solution that ultimately fixed it?

Re: Wet Basement
My neighbors all had french drains installed to fix the problem. We live on a canal and they have unfinished basements. My house was raised 5 feet in the early 1980's in order to build an apartment in the basement. I haven't flooded once. My neighbors swear by the french drains.

Re: Wet Basement
We were quoted $3600 for the french drain, plus we have to have someone come and remove the heating unit and water heater! It's going to cost close to $5000 and home owners insurance doesn't cover it. Am hoping for an alternative.

Re: Wet Basement
we had people come out and give us an estimate on french drains -- but the water is coming thru the window -- we think -- so we dont know what to do !

Re: Wet Basement
My grandmother had that prob aftr she spent $$ to re-do her basement inot a game room. Anyway they though it was the drain outside the basement door so my unlce put in a special pumop. Did not work.
Long Story Short a pipe was broken in hr sprinkler system as well as the system itself. It was going on at like 2 am once in a blue moon and flooding the basement.
