We've been asked to bring a watermelon boat ...

to a graduation party!
Do I really have to make one of these things???? I'm thinking a fruit platter (or two) would be just as good

You can just buy it, although it won't be cheap. It's a lot of work. I think fruit platters would work just as well, and I would buy them too!

What the hell is a watermelon boat? I've seen the basket, I've TASTED the vodka watermelon, but never have I heard of a watermelon boat! If anyone figures it out, let me in on it!

That's insane. Nobody in their right mind would expect you to assemble a model boat out of watermelon. I think you are taking your BIL way too literally.
