Re: what a joke

My husband & I have resigned ourselves to move out of state before buying a house. Since moving in with my parents is so out of the question, we have decided that moving out of state is the best bet. Although I love NY, I am willing to make the move to ensure a better quality of life. I don't want to be paying for my house when I'm sixty.

I guess our other option is moving out of NY

All of nyc is a disaster when it comes to buying a house. I also will be moving out of state soon after I have a baby. It is just to insane the prices they are asking when you move out of state and get almost triple the room for the same price.

That's what it costs to live here. A lot of things are more expensive in NY/LI then other places. I wouldn't mind the costs so much if I enjoyed living here more. I am working on DH to seriously consider moving out of state to improve our quality of life.

there are some new constructions homes for cheap hiding

but if you move out of state the pay is less

gas is pretty much the same

people are in slow motion

I can live with less money if I was happier. I am getting old and I am tired of the pace. I don't need to run around any more, a nice stroll would be nice right about now Especially if it was someplace warm

Slow Motion huh? yeah maybe and the pay is less but houses are less, groceries are less so it evens out.
Personally I love living out of NY. You can always go back to visit and besides, out of NY the people are SOOOOO much nicer.

edited to say: even the weather is nicer, we had 60 degrees this weekend!

Well, the weather is not better in the boonies of CT, it was like -5 degrees out this morning But the housing market is a lot better, more new homes (ours is new construction) and much lower taxes. For the home we have, we would have paid double at least in LI and we pay half (if not less) the taxes. I fought DH for years about moving out of NY, but it really is worth it for us- its a personal choice for everyone.

I agree...My parents pay almost $4500. in taxes each year, and they live in a middle class home in Deer Park....living is just more affordable away from LI or Metro NY..

I loved the 'lower priced propereties around $350,000'!

Seriously, by no stretch of the imagination is it 'easy' for a middle income person to buy a decent house on LI.
