She sounds very selfish. I say just go on with your planning! Don't let this ruin your excitement! It is her choice if she wants to come or not...she knows that this could ruin your friendship and obviously she doesn't care. You tried more than once to make this situation better, but she doesn't see that. Oh well, it is her loss...she will regret it in the future..
Is she going through major problems right now. Maybe she is just having a bad couple of days...
I don't see how this could cause major family problems. Why would her family care so much about the mother being invited? Sounds wierd..
Forget this... Your wedding is coming up...you can't be bothered with this right now!!

HI, how are you?
NO offense, but did you give your best friend's mom the impression that you were going to invite her? It seems as though you gave a verbal invitation.
I have guest list issues and I have to be extremely cognizant about keeping my numbers down, but I would NEVER tell someone, you are on my maybe list and if someone cancels you are in., I think that is somewhat rude.
I can see why your friend is upset.

Re: What a MESS!! (long)
Well, I recently had a slew of problems with FH and my's bestfriend, who was also the bestman. He basically, in not so many words, said that we are two miserable people and are total mental cases. Well, actually, he said that along with many other words. He has been having a very rough year, and we have gone above and beyond in order to help make him feel better and what not. What it comes down to is that sometimes misery loves company, and when these 'energy' ****ing 'friends' realize that their company is actually happy, they have a hard time handling it. Did your friend's mother receive an invite, and then have it revoked? Or did she just assume that she was invited? I think that maybe it would have been better had you not contacted her mother, but maybe had her explain to her mother what was going on. She may have felt insulted by the call, and I think I would have felt better, if it was me, if you just did not send an invite. But, if this girl is not such a great friend to begin with, she may have been looking for a reason to explode anyway. Some people are like that. I hope you don't end up losing an old friend like we did, but in a way, a weight has been lifted off our shoulders, no more frantic phone calls, or jealous and snide remarks. It's been surprisingly freeing. Good Luck to you!

I would try and look at the real reasons why your friend backed out. Maybe all this Jealousy is part of the reason. Although if you gave her the impression that her mother was invited, then i can see how she is upset. no offense to you.

Forgive me - I'm pretty plain spoken and blunt today.
Sounds like you are better off without both of them and their drama. Move ahead and enjoy your day!

Re: What a MESS!! (long)
I think you hit it on the head when you said she is looking for an excuse to back out. She sounds like she has some major issues, and hasn't been a very good friend to you (now or in the past!).
If this is how she truly feels, I say good riddance - you don't need any negativity around you during this happy time in your life.
If you want to keep this person in your life, send her a note saying your sorry she feels the need to remove herself from the proceedings, that you meant no offense, and should she need something you'll be there. This way the decision to drop out is her's entirely - no blame on your part - and you'll feel better having done what you can to remedy the situation.
Good luck - hope this helped...

Hmmm I also think you're better off now. It seems not only is this girls' mother drama, but she is too !!!
If all it was was the situation w/the Mother, I could see her being upset. BUT in light of the conversation you had w/her and her thinking it was a good idea for YOU to call her mom, I think it's just another excuse. If she hasnt been supportive since the beginning, then she probably was happy to have a way out and is playing the situation to her advantage as much as possible.
Be glad you found out now, and cut your losses. With any luck, she won't return your call and you don't have to invite her either

Sometimes people are like that ...
The best you can do is be her friend...
One day she will realize that jealousy is very ugly..
I think she needs a reality check..
good luck
