What a story !!

This was on yesterdays Oprah. I thought it was such an amazing story. I'll get to the point

A girl was given up for adoption at birth. Her biological mom was 17 when she had her and gave her up so that she would have a better life.

This girl is now 17 herself, and pregnant. She is confused and sad beyond words and doesnt know what to do. She is really torn between keeping the baby, and giving it up for adoption. As she went further along in her pregnancy she got more and more attached attached to the baby, and couldnt come to grips with the possibility of giving this baby up for adoption.

Her adoptive mom decided to give her the phone number to reach her biological mom. She figured that maybe this was a missing piece to this emotional roller coaster, and that maybe this girl can be guided in the right direction. Maybe she can get some comfort from her biological mom, who had been through this exact situation 17 years prior.

She meets her biological mom, and they form a bond. No feelings are hurt, no resentment on either side, it was a great meeting for them...

Her biological mom adopted the baby !!!

Now the girl has the baby in her life. She visits whenever she wants, and she can still continue with schooling, etc. Isnt that amazing ?????
Her biological mom didnt want her to miss out on such an amazing experience...motherhood...(she had other children that she kept later on in life)..so she didnt want her daughter to be put in the same circumstances, having to give the baby up...

I thought that was a beautiful story.
The adoptive parents are very supportive and happy in this situation also......

You know, its so nice to hear such heartwarming stories like that.

Maybe I am the only one but I don't see it as heartwarming as other people do. I think this baby will have a lot of emotion to deal with as she finds out that her 'mother' is also her grandmother and that her biological mother was given up for adoption by her 'mother'. I think it is great that the biological mother wanted to help her birth-daughter, but where was the adoptive parents in all of this?
How did the pregnant girl's mother know how to contact the biological mother? Why did they wait until now to met?

Michele, I agree that there will be lots of issues ahead for the daughter... But I guess we can say that her circumstances could have been alot worse. This way she is in the lives of everyone connected to her.... and the 'issues' are not really that horrible.

The adoptive mom just thought this was a good time to give her daughter the #. I might have missed some other parts of the story. with an infant in the room, you catch every other word !

I saw this yesterday, too.

I thought the young woman's perspective on this was very mature and strong - a very telling testament to her adoptive parents and their success in how they raised her.
She said that she loved her birth Mom for *twice* putting her needs first - once, when she was given up for adoption to a family that could provide a better life and care for her, and again, when her birth Mom decided to adopt her daughter, allowing the young woman to continue on her path w/school and build a stronger future - something that she'd likely NOT have the opportunity for, if she was to raise the child herself.

I do find the 'connection' to be a bit unusual, but heartwarming no less. She also had the opportunity to finally find out who her birth father is, and MEET him in person during the show.

Personally, I *loved* the blended family - the white couple who had 4 children of their own, and they adopted SEVEN black children who had lost their Mom and their father, as hard as he tried, could not provide a good life for them. THAT was an amazing story.

The short stature family was amazing too!

Yes, that 'blended' family was amazing also. It is priceless what some people do for others...

The small family was adorable also. They seemed so content after all that they had gone through..


I agree that they young pregnant girl was very mature about her situation. I think it was an amazing story...
