There is nothing that either FH or I could give my parents that could really get across our appreciation for all they have done. Also, our parents are comfortable financially, and nothing we could give them (though maybe sentimental) would be anything that couldn't already get themselves. We're going to buy our mothers jewelry and our fathers cuff links, but I really want to do something special for them.
I am not at all a bride who cares about being the center of attention, so I thought the best thing I could give my parents would be a wonderful memory. I was hoping that at the reception, just as a brief 15 minute thing, we could call our parents out to the dance floor and as a surprise have someone renew their vows for them in front of everyone.
What do you guys think? Too much?

I think that is a sweet idea, but you have to make sure they are okay with it first. That is not something I would surprise them with.

JMO but I wouldnt do it without talking to them- I know my mom wants the day about us and she would be upset if anything- even her- got in the way.. can you maybe play each of their first dance songs and have them dance to it? I might do that with my parents (FH's father is deceased- so we wont do it for his mom- too sad)

I'm really not worried about the element of surprise - I'm more worried about the logistics. How can I do this? How long would it take? Would my hall be jerks about it? They were all married in a Catholic Church, so do I need a priest? Etc....

i think thats an awesome idea! If they're happily married--i dont think they would mind renewing their vows! You would definately need an officiant...maybe the one you use? (if you get married at the hall) i wish my parents didnt renew their vows a couple years ago- i would have had to steal your idea!

That is beautiful but I don't know if i'd want to surprise them with something like that....just my opinion. Maybe a speech would be nicer, thanking them for the beautiful lives they've given you?

My parents are so in love it almost makes me want to vom - LOL. And FH's parents too. We're both very lucky. I know for a fact my parents would love to renew their vows because they've discussed it with us. And then I could my my Mom's matron of honor, my sister her maid of honor, and my two brothers my Dad's best men. FH and his 3 brothers could be BMs for their Dad, and my FMIL's only female niece (who lived with her for a while) could be her MOH. I was hoping the officiant would say whatever he'd say to both couples simultaneously and that then he'd have each one say their vows separate. I'm hoping for like a 15 min thing. I think they really would love it.

IMOO: I think that that is really personal and your guests shouldn't be included in that. Your parents might want people at their vows (like the folks from their original bridal party to be there).
