What advice would you give to newly engaged brides at the beginning of the planning process?

An old elementary school friend of mine got engaged over the holidays, and she's been facebooking me asking for advice and suggestions on just about anything-
Since most of us have the majority of our plans done (or at least thought of), what advice would you give newly engaged girls who are just beginning their planning?

The advice I would give is to wait as long as possible to order your dress because YOU WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND. Plus as your plans take shape (which for me has taken the past 6 months) your idea for your gown and bridesmaid dresses may change (for me it completely changed! ) I ended up doing a dress re selection in December AND I drove my poor bridesmaids crazy by changing their dress colors every week. SO thats my advice

Work on a budget first and STICK TO IT . No price is set in stone always try and haggle a better price.

First, take some time to enjoy the engagement....FH and I didn't even think of plans or anything for 2 months after we got engaged. We just let the engagement sink it (it was easier for him, he knew it was coming!).

Next, don't second guess yourself. Once I picked the hall, I stopped looking at other halls - no websites, no ads, nothing. You will always flip flop in your decisions so just don't allow yourself to go there.

The other big advice I would give, is that realize going into it, you're not going to make EVERYONE happy - it's impossible. The only people who have to be 100% happy are you and FH.

Don't disagree for the sake of disagreeing. Just because someone else suggest something, don't say no only because it wasn't your idea.

I found myself doing that involuntarily.

Definitely do a budget and stick to it! We kind of did our budget after the fact....rendering it useless!

Don't stress!!! Work at a resonable pace to get everything done. I see so many brides that rush to get everything done and stress, I've been working at a reasonable pace, an appointment here, an appointment there and I have not stressed about anything... everything is getting done and I still have over 8 months to go. Don't feel like you need to book everything right away, take your time.

my main piece of advice.

The wedding goes by so fast...make sure that you spend a few quiet moments with your new husband at the wedding - also try to do the same with your parents, his parents and those closest to you. Truly just try to be in the moment - it's so easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of the day...

I look back at my wedding - and it's all such a blur and the moments that I treasure the most - and wish I had more of - are those where my husband and I were just alone for a minute - really embracing what just happened
