Fh and I were talking, and we do not plan on even trying until we are around 31 ish...but is that a poor choice? I hear mixed things.

Re: what age is too old to have your first baby?
I don't think thta is a poor choice at all. It will all depend on when you feel you are ready to become a parent (not that you ever are actually ready!!) I was 23 when I got pg, and had Justin at 24. I had to grow up real fast for that, but I would not have made any other decision. Today many women wait until they are in their 30's before TTC. Many want a house, and career. It is all a matter of personal choice!

Re: what age is too old to have your first baby?
My hubby and I are 31 or will be soon and we are not thinking of having a baby just yet. If I were to get pregnant, that wouldbe wonderful. However, we were just married a year ago (we've been together 6 years though) and we are both married to our careers now and I wouldn't have it any other way, at least right now.
So, although you'll get a different answer from everyone, I don't think that's too old. If it is, then I'm up a creek without a paddle....

It's an extremely subjective decision - good luck with whatever you decide

Re: what age is too old to have your first baby?
Its a really personal choice. Ive always been a fan of 'I want to grow up with my children', so I didnt want to wait long at all. (got married at 26, prego soon after our 1st anniv)... I want to have a few kids, so I want to be young, strong, and be able to play softball and go swimming with them :)
My parents got married/had us later on (mom 33-36 dad 39-42) and they are the best parents I could have asked for, so its not a matter of age....
All the best in whatever you choose !

After 35 years old you are at higher risk for downs syndrome and other birth defects (50 years old is the cutoff for a man). In my personal experience with OB/GYN work, I have seen plenty of women 35 and older without any problems with a pregnancy. I guess it has more to do with family history and lifestyle than age alone. I do believe that the one woman I saw in the hospital who had in vitro, she delivered at 26 weeks (I dont know if the baby survived the long term, but she was born alive). She was 47 years old. IMO that is too old!

I agree that it's subjective and totally up to you and FI to decide. Obviously, after a certain age it is out of your control, but IMO 31ish is not too old at all! The other thing to consider when you start trying is how many children you want, and what the age difference would be between them, so you can plan what age you would want to be when you have your last child.
My DH is 39 and will be 40 a few months after the baby is born, so even though I'm only 27, we thought this would be a good time for us, since by the time we have 1 or 2 more kids, he will already by in his mid 40s, and I'll be in my early 30s.

I think if you plan to try around 31ish, it may take a little longer to conceive, but the health risks for the baby don't start to really really increase until you're about 35... The peak age for baby making supposedly is around 27.

31 is definitely NOT too old! Don't worry about that! I agree that it does depend on your family history, but all the doctors that I've talked to say that if there are no other medical problems, that even being 35 years old does not put you in high risk. I'm 35 now, and will be 36 when I deliver, and I'm not considered high risk. Furthermore, I just got my amnio results, and EVERYTHING is fine! So, don't worry!!!

I do not think 31 is old at all -- look who's talking, I'm 38 now and will still be when I have my baby in September!!!!

31? You're still a youngin'! I'll be 37 3/4 when Peanut arrives in July (or June, please ).
Hopefully we'll have #2 just before/after my 39th birthday!
Good luck whatever you decide!

Christy I am 35 and we are having our first child They don't consider you 'high risk' until you are 35. Then they offer you testing so you can be sure everything is alright!!! I know women who have had babies after 40 years of age so don't worry

I am 34 and don't have any children yet.I can't help it if me & hubby didn't meet until a few years ago.I don't think there's anything wrong with having babies a little later.
