What are people thinking?

What are people thinking?

We went to go look at an apartment that sounded wonderful on paper. The woman didn't put a price in her ad so on the phone she asked what could we afford & I told her. she said they were hoping to get $1,600.00 a month.
We went there today to see it. The carpet is meant to be white (we think) it was FILTHY!! Black stains all over it. The people still lived there. And of course it would need a new paint job & a major cleaning. So we asked when will they be out. She said the end of the month & they are hoping to rent it by the 1st. So my husband said 'Are you going to do any work to it?' She said 'No, I mean we'll clean it up. ' But, she didn't offer to paint it. and made no comment about the gross carpet. It seems like it could have potential but, I doubt we'll take it. How do you attempt to advertise w/out making sure things look good??

I'm sorry but I would have said, well your not going to get many offers unless you get a new carpet and paint!

We looked at some DUMPS before we found our apt...and they were MORE expensive...

There was this one place where th guy had 3 kids and when he was showing it to us, the kids were running around and he said the current tenants let them come in whenever they want, hope that wont bother you...UM yeah it will..we didnt sign up to be babysitters for $1400 a month! ( and the bathroom was in the kitchen in this place...weird!)

I wish I had been a bit more forceful when we moved into our place. It is a decent price for the amunt of ammenities, but I thought the walls looked a little dingy, and I asked the landlord if he planned to do anythign aboutit. He said that they were recently painted, and that the marks were from the appliances being delivered. When I tried to wash the marks off, the 'paint' came off too! Then DH discovered that it was only primer! Now I have been arguing with the LL to pay for tha paint & we will paint it how we ant it.

We are still battling about this one

Re: What are people thinking?

I thought that tenant law said that landlords are supposed to paint apartments whenever the tenant leaves and before the new one comes in. I think alot of (legal) landlords figure tenants don't know this and they think they can get away with it (if I am right).

And the carpet...I'd be embarassed to show that apartment in the condition to anyone!

I hope you find another one soon!
