What are the benefits of charting over a prediction kit?

Im just wondering what the over all benefits of charting are? Does it only tell you when you are ovulating? Doesnt a kit do that? Which is easier, which is better? I am really hoping to start next month and have the kit. But then I read about charting and I wonder which is something I should do. Thanks for your help!Charting to me seems like so much work..so Im very curious about it! I know nothing about it...thats why Im asking!

I didn't do either... my cycle is pretty regular 28 days so I went to babycenter.com and went to the ovulation calculator. It gave me the days I was going to be most fertile and we tried it then and it worked, first time! I can't really say what is better charting or not... If your cycles are pretty regular, try the ovulation calculator on babycenter, see how that works for ya! Good luck!

Thanks! My cycle is right at 28 days also..but have not had any luck with the baby center chart, we kinda started tryin a few months before the wedding,,...nothing. My Doc said to have sex on the 8th, 10th, 12th and 14th days of my cycle and for the most part we have done that and nothing. So I have the ovulation kit..Im thinking maybe I ovulate late. Charting seems like it does the same thing a s a kit does, only more of a pain in the AS$...but again..I dont know much about it.
Ill try the kit at the end of this month and see if I have any luck! Im ready to get pregnant!!!

You might be a late ovulator...I would continue on to day 16 and 18.. I was using the ovulation kits and then started using a Clearplan Fertility monitor but since I started taking Clomid the Clearplan book says not to use the monitor while taking Clomid.

Good Luck!!!!!

Have you tried the web site I posted? I am just starting also and I'm charting with the site. It makes it really easy and is actually helpful to read. It does everything for you!

wow...interesting stuff!!! Thanks so much everyone for your help and advice! Im going to try the kit first, see when Im ovulating..if no luck with that..then I'll try charting..I just dont like the idea of taking my temp everymorning at the same time..I dont wake up at the same time every day and I feel like Ill get obsessed if I do this every day/...but who knows..I may like it! I'll just take it one month at a time...we said if by end of summer still nothing then we would go back to the doctor and see what they reccomend! Thanks again and lots of luck to everyone!!!

Hey Ladies,

Just wanted to let you know that if you encounter problems TTC..many RE's will not see you until you have been charting for a few months. Yes you can just POAS and find out that way but charting helps you get in tune with your body and temping can help reassure any HPT answers you get.
