Fish_ I don't care because I don't like seafood anyway.

you can have a little fish. I just had my weekly tuna sandwich that I crave every day like it's the Holy Grail. NOTHING RAW.

No soft cheeses. Brie, Feta, Gorgonzola, etc.

Limited to no caffeine.

No fun and tasty alcohol or tobacco

Watch for raw eggs and undercooked meat.

oh right...processed meats too - I miss hot dogs desperately. sausage, salami, bologna, that kind of stuff. you can have fresh roast turkey for a sandwich or well done roast beef. You can have provolone, american, swiss...

You can eat fish Sue. My midwife wishes I like a nice piece of broiled flounder etc... I think shell fish and sushi are out.

Non-pasturized cheese is also out- although I have had a few pieces of brie during my pregnancy.

Foods to avoid are:

unpasteurised milks

soft, ripened cheeses (varieties such as brie, camembert, and similar blue veined varieties)

ice-cream from soft whip machines (wrapped or block ice-cream is fine)

patés — all types

raw and undercooked eggs (thoroughly cook eggs until both the white and yolk are solid)

liver and liver products

mayonnaise (homemade)

shark, marlin and swordfish should be avoided and tuna restricted to two medium cans or one fresh steak per week. This follows concerns about mercury in these fish and also applies to women who are breastfeeding or intending to become pregnant.
Toxoplasmosis is a disease caught from contact with uncooked or undercooked meat, contaminated vegetables and fruit, and in cat faeces. If it's caught in pregnancy, it can be passed to the baby and cause severe problems such as blindness or mental disabilities. You should avoid handling cat faeces or the cat litter tray. Wash your hands after handling a cat, and after preparing meat and other foods. Make sure cats stay away from all surfaces where food is eaten or prepared.

Toxoplasmosis can be tested for during pregnancy, if necessary.

Peanuts
If you or members of your close family suffer from peanut allergy or allergic disease such as atopic eczema, asthma, or hayfever, it is recommended that you should avoid eating peanuts or food containing peanut products during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding.

Does anybody know the real deal on shellfish? I totally ate lobster last weekend. Like quite a bit. A whole lobster one day and a lobster roll the next day....

Michele: I don't like fish. The only fish I like is tuna (with mayo and celery),turbo or flounder (pretty much the same) breaded and fried (not fishy at all) or shrimp cocktail. Also like egg rolls but I'm not sure if thats got shrimp or pork.

Jennbaby: Oh no! I've been dying for Mr.Softee nice soft ice cream cone.

My birthday is Saturday so I may have some nice ice cream cake!

I pretty much ate everything in moderation..I did not eat anything I wouldn't have eaten if I wasn't pregnant.

The only thing I didn't do was drink alcohol and smoke of course..

Hey STACEDZ.....ME TOO!

I'm with you Camille!

I ate what I wanted in moderation (with the exception of raw fish and unpasturized dairy products) with my doctor's approval.

I ate feta cheese almost every day when I was pregnant with my son. The deli I ordered my greek salad from buys packages of pasturized feta. Many soft cheeses that are mass produced are pasturized by the factory.

I ate the occasional shellfish, and sometimes chopped liver. I also ater liverwurst on occasion.

I'm a caffeinaholic....lol And, he's fine, relatively.... I also ate hotdogs almost every day with him. I never heard about hotdogs or sausage.

But, yep, I think the key is moderation.

Rita
