What are you eating to not gain too much?

What are you eating to not gain too much?

I am trying to eat more fruits for snacks. I am trying to be careful what I eat. I don't want to gain too much weight. I am always hungry though.
Forget chicken.Since I got pregnant, I can't eat it.
It tastes so gross to me.
Are you hungry all the time too?
I do go through little bouts of feeling queasy during the day so alot of things don't appeal to me in the morning either.

It doesn’t seem to matter what I eat these days… I still gain the weight! I was eating only healthy foods from Whole Foods in the city… eating wheat pasta and making sure that I was eating enough fruits and veggies. But for some reason, I still gain the weight. Oh well.

I’m not really hungry all the time… thank god for that… or else I would be a whale! But I like to snack on grapes, granola and yogurt, peanut butter crackers and anything with avocados and tomatoes…

It's so hard to do. You'll get hungrier and hungrier!

I am trying to eat fruit as much as I can because it fills me up..but even that trick isnt' working anymore...

I try very hard to eat when hungry..and when I am starving I opt for peanut butter on bread or fig newtons...something that is good for the baby. It does need to grow remember!

I am 22 weeks this week and have gained 14 pounds. I don't know if that is 'normal' but I have now started to gain about a pound a week. Just gotta grin and bear it!

My OB told me that there is no such thing as 'dieting' when you are pregnant. Do not be overly concerned with what the scale says b/c as long as you are making HEALTHY food choices, you will have to gain some weight. Most of the weight is your uterus growing, blood volume increasing, fluids increasing, the baby! and your breasts, etc. So, it's not all 'fat' that you are gaining!

I wouldn't mind if my breasts grew. But so far all I've got is a pouch in my belly.

well said Claud !

that pouch is your itty bitty!!!

And it needs lots of protein, nutrients, vitamins, calcium, fat, oreos, chocolate milk, dove bars, vanilla chocolate chip ice-cream with m&m's and chocolate sprinkles, milano cookies and french toast.

OBVIOUSLY......

Re: What are you eating to not gain too much?

Well my Aunt only gained 8lbs with my cousin, and 11 with another (6lb babies) ... but that was 33 years ago! I don't see how its possible, but she says its so, and her sisters swear to it - I dunno..
I would love to hear what a doctor would say about that now, back then smoking was just fine and dandy too..... Blech!

Then again my SIL gained 36-40 with each child and lost it all in under 3 months.

Just listen to your body!

Re: What are you eating to not gain too much?

I was told to expect around 30. I don't know if this is based on frame (I am basically a dwarf at 5'2') but I think 30-40 sounds about right. It sounds horrifying, but it's a person for god's sake!!! We aren't actually growing peanuts, itty bitties and peas! They are PEOPLE with ARMS and BUTTS!

I figure I'll get back on track when it's over. That's all. Thank goodness for the slim down board!

And if I hear ONE MORE PERSON WITH THE GAINED 11 POUNDS STORY......I am sorry, I think that either it's a lie, or they didn't weigh people correctly, or everybody smoked thru pregnancy and/or took diet pills. It is only older women (like MY MIL ) that are like...oh really?...14 pounds already?...I only gained 12 with Chris.....Really did you? That's GREAT. FUNNY how NONE of us were there to VOUCH for that!!!!

oops...let a little 'personal emotions' out there.....

Everybody is different. Theresa believe me. When you are pregnant you'll be a wreck if you don't gain weight on schedule because they start telling you the baby isn't getting what it needs to grow their bones and you'd feel REALLY guilty. Plus...I have a feeling your husband is an Italian Stallion like my own who will start feeding you like you are a little cow!!! I went from glamorous wife to 'baby vessel' as he likes to call me, overnight. He keeps shoving bananas and Pepperidge Farm cookies in my bag!!!

My dr. told me that they would like me to gain 25 pounds throughout the entire pregnancy.
I know if you gain too much, its harder to lose it after the baby is born. You also don't want to gain too little because the baby needs all their nutrients.

Re: What are you eating to not gain too much?

OMG!! How funny is this whole thread! My experience was that I ate completely healthy up until my first Dr appt at 8.5 wks and managed to gain 10 lbs!!!

So, I started putting the junk food back in my life (and my baby's) and I ended up only gaining 2 lbs in the last month from my visit!!! I was SOO happy that I made it out of my first trimester of gaining only 12 lbs that I told my Italian Stallion and WOW that was a huge mistake. He is now shoving food down me practically saying that 12 pounds is not enough for the baby! haahaha! (My Dr by the way recommends a pound a week for the whole pregnancy!!)

Best wishes!

Re: What are you eating to not gain too much?

I am 19 weeks now and haven't been more hungry than usual. I am trying to get more protein but I totally can't eat chicken either and don't really eat meat. Plus you are supposed to limit your fish so it's been hard. I am trying o add more milk types of protein like yogurt and cottage cheese- also for the calcium. I have always eaten alot of fruits and veggies so I am sticking with that plus water- I spend half my life in the ladies room but I am always parched. I have gained 6 lbs so far, and I have said it before- each pound it very hard for me. I haven't been able to get passed that yet. Although, i do love my new breasts!

My midwife told me from day #1 that 7 servings a veggies was a must.
You can buy turkey cutlets instead of chicken Sue-that is a very lean meat.
You MUST eat protein throughout the pregnancy too.
I have read that gaining 20-30lbs is considered normal and healthy, but everyone is different and some women gain weight differently.
If you eat the ice creams ( I miss ice cream), cookies ( I miss those too), milk shakes (
) then you will put on more fat than healthy weight. But we all go off the wagon sometimes....I miss my wagon
