Re: What are your views on saving Cord Blood?

I posted a thread on this not too long ago so you may want to search or bump it up....I'm going to do this because my father passed away from Leukemia, so in our case it's a really good idea.

It's just expensive though....

I DEF plan on doing this.. I think this is a MAJOR YES for the same reasons and also just in case any one of your other children has problems, you have this reassurance..

We just registered with Cryo-Cell, they were the most reasonably priced I could find, and a friend used them, she had no problems.

Cryo-Cell

Not completely convinced of the benefits, but I'll take a gamble. Its a small price to pay if it can be of some use to the baby of another family member one day. My brother passed away from Hodgkins Disease (lymphoma) and although its not hereditary, you can't help but think what if....

Thanks for the info...The ones I've seen are 2,000 and then 70/month

I am currently researching Viacord. DH and I are very serious about this and just have to make a decision.

My dr recommended Viacord - I think it's about $1800 to start and $90 per year to store.

We will probably also use Viacord.

I used Cryo-cell. They were the cheapest by far and I had no problems. If research starts to show that cord blood is of no use I can discontinue storage. For now it is worth $50/yr. to me.

I can barely talk about this topic. I had it written in my day book to arrange after my doctor's appointment that day. And then i was sent to the hospital and induced within 24 hours.... They didn't have any kits at the hospital. We weren't able to do it. It really upsets me, I completely think it's an incredible thing to do and would have really offered me peace of mind.

I used Cryo-Cell, and am very happy with them! They were great coming to pick it up at the hospital, etc. It is DEFINITELY worth the peace of mind! It was only about $350 to start, and it's only $90 a year to maintain...

Don't beat yourself up over it. It's still considered experimental and no one's even quite sure on the benefits or how long the blood can last, etc.

In my case, I hope I am able to store this because of our circumstances, but otherwise I wonder if I would.

Also, if you plan to have another child, you can plan to save their cord blood - they can be used for siblings too

We used Viacord. They have a referral program wherein if you refer someone to them (and they use them), you get a $100 savings bond for your Peanut.

You mommies-to-be who are using them should refer each other!!
